Do NOT get the Alpine W505 if your going to be using the Nav feature regularly. The Blackbird is a a great handheld unit but the resolution stays the same when docked inside the HU. It displays hard to read street signs and gets poor GPS signal inside the dash. I highly recommend the Kenwood DNX8120....MUCH better than the Alpine, 5v outputs, 13 band eq, flawless Garmin Nav, and the super ease of grounding the parking break sensor to watch movies while in D.

Not sure what the previous poster is talking about with the reception of the BlackBird. I have this setup in my 4Runner with the external antenna attached and mounted under the dash (i.e. factory GPS antenna location.) and have no reception problems at all. I do agree however that the resolution of the BlackBird is not the best coming out of the HU (looks great on the BB's internal display), but it's still very readable. The HU itself is a great unit, works really well an iPod (or two if you get the optional ipod full speed cable). The interface if very responsive and crystal clear. My only real complain is the fitment inside the dash of the 4Runner, in the factory locations on the mounting bracket the HU sticks out too far (same as the urban runner TomTom unit). I drilled out the factory mounting bracket and set the HU back about another .5" . Looks a bit better, but still not to my liking, plus there's a gap (about .25" above the HU and the dash.). The problem is the factory mounting on the 4Runner (cause any std. dual din has the same mounting locations) and there aren't any really good dash kits for the 4Runner.
So in other words I'd say go for it. If you want a better navi, go with Alpine's DVD nav. Has a higher resolution as well.

To sound like a broken record here AVICZ3 it's faster more accurate then any nav unit on the market...Kenwood makes many nice units but nothing compared to the Pioneer pieces.

One thing that the IVA-W505 has over most other HU's is display resolution. The pioneer and kenwood don't have near the resolution.
Here are some resolution comparisons:
Alpine IVA-W505: WVGA, 1.15million Pixels - 800 x 480
Pioneer AVIC-Z2: , 336,960 Pixels - 1,440 x 234
Pioneer AVIC-Z3: QVGA, 480 x 234
Eclipse AVN6620: , 280,800 dots - 400 x 234 x 3
Kenwood DNX7100 , 336,960 Pixels
The only other HU that I've seen with the same resolution is the Sony XAVW1. 800 x 480
