Did you do it?

Just to double check, I can upgrade my tires from 265 to 275 and not have to worry about rubbing? (Suspension is stock)

I know it has been a few years, but how did the stock runner do on the alpine loop?

Alpine loop in a stock 4Runner is easy. The only "hard" section was the mineral creek trail on the Ouray side and it wasn't that hard. There were Subarus, full size trucks, and crossovers on the trail.

Go for it. Air your tires down to smooth the ride and enhance your grip in the rocks, choose your lines/bypasses carefully, pay attention(!!), and enjoy the views. The 4Runner is an incredibly capable vehicle stock from the showroom. That said, I rest much easier with the added piece of mind of a real set of AT tires, sliders, and aftermarket skids---the former two of which I’d personally consider nearly essential for safety and cheap insurance if you’ll be spending much time in this kind of terrain; the stock tires are junk even on the highway and a set of sliders are way cheaper than fixing a dented rocker panel or door.
