Alpine Type S Door Speakers

Hey guys,

I have a 2005 4runner sport with the non- JBL system. I want to spend around 250- 300 dollars to upgrade my sound system. My front 6x9's are pretty much blown. They make crackling noises even at low volumes so they need to be replaced. I was thinking about putting in Alpine Type S 6 1/2"s but I am worried about the bass in them. I'm leaving the rear doors stock to keep some of the factory bass. I am definately putting in an Alpine H.U, but I don't know if my speakers are going to sound worse than stock, because there is no amp. I am not really a fan of subs. I'd rather spend the money on rims, so bass in the speakers is important.

But will the bass be reduced up front by the Alpines?

And is it necessary to spend another 100 or 150 dollars for an amp to power them?

My last question is about the stock system. I thought the non-JBL was a very good system. Now is Toyota good at putting in stock systems? Or have I just not heard enough aftermarket ones to compare it to?

Im no streo wiz but I replaced my HU with high power (18wats rms) Kenwood and Alpine Type S 6 1/2 components and Kenwood 6 1/2 coaxles in back and to me it made a big diference.Replacing your HU and front speakers should make you happy. .Should go with the Alpine Type S components .Sounds great (to me ) and was only 129.00 from crutchfields.I holowed out stock tweeters and used adapters that came with speakers to mount twetters.Worked good.But damn.... now I want to add an amp and sub for that little extra

You will be happy with your new Alpine HU and speakers. Yes, getting an amp will make a big difference as you will be able to play it louder and clearer to hear more of the details in the music.

You should consider replacing your rears too as it's not the main drivers for your bass. Actually, your sound stage should be coming from mostly the front and your rears should be filler. Meaning you shouldn't notice your rears when music is playing because it should seem to be coming from your fronts. Your rears sort of fills in the sound from the back but not overtly if that makes sense.

If you want to top off your sound system, get a sub and fill in the bottom half of your music...you won't reget it. That said, try it bit by bit so you can appreciate the better SQ along the way.
