Alpine Unit Compatibility in a 99

Hey guys I came across the following unit and thought It might be a good time to upgrade since my CD player doesn't work.

-Alpine IVA W200 In Dash DVD player touchscreen remote - $400

Anyone had one of these? What do you guys think about the price? And I'm pretty sure these are compatible in our 4runners.

is it a flip out screen?

it flips down so your able to insert the cd's but I should find out if the screen can come off. Don't want to get it stolen

Crutchfield's site allows you to select your particular car and it might have that HU in its database.

according to the Crutchfield's site It will fit. And the unit was also given some really good reviews. I think I might pick it up.

The screen does not come off, but because it is so low on the dash, when you look in the window of my truck, the screen looks black enough that it could pass for a cubby compartment. But then, my interior is dark to begin with and my front windows have a light tint, so that could all add to the visual deception.

$400 is an okay price -- about half of what the W205 (the next generation that docks with the Blackbird II) is selling for.

I think I saw the W205 on Crutchfield's site for $600. So that means that you could probably find the W205 for about $500 somewhere else online.

Wow, it looks like the price of the new W205 has dropped like a rock! I bought my W200 for $999 back in March 2006. Looks like I can get a new W205 for about 20% less today (about $600-$700).

So now I'm thinking $400 for the old W200 isn't such an okay price after all. It's a great unit to have, but given that it's obsolete, see if you can talk him down a whole bunch.

Today I Picked up the Alpine HU for $184 off of Ebay. I'll be getting it within the next few days and will have to do some research on how to install it in the runner.

I'm very glad I waited and didn't spend $400 bucks on it
