But then I started lurking through build threads and I don't see having the time or money for either of those anymore.

To see what is possible with our trucks. Both where you can take them, and what we can do to them. Seeing peoples fab skills on here is pretty amazing too, we have some talented people on here. That being said there is also the drama, and trolls, which CAN be entertaining, but a lot of times that's the thread you just stop clicking on because it's just going to piss you off. That and any thread that has the words dip, tire rubbing, will this fit, lift, how much did you pay, et nauseam.

The first three weeks

I came to the sight for some insight as to what was special about them that I didn't already know. After that three weeks I just pop in for something new -> entertainment if you will.......

About 99% of the stuff after that first three weeks isn't worth even opening the thread - - - -

I think you're correct - It's going to take another three years for the '10s to start wearing out.

I ask myself the same question quite often these days.

I started coming here to read build threads and come up with my own plan/ideas for my Runner. Then I built a build thread of my own to "pay it forward," so to speak, for anyone else that wanted a more in depth look of what I did with mine, perhaps giving someone else ideas for their build.

But seeing as the same basic questions keep getting posted over and over, it's evident that few people check out the build threads to glean info/ideas. So now I just come here for the asinine rehashed discussions and the resulting drama. Oh, and to keep up to date with @NotStifler

Speaking from experience, the 5th Gen has been out long enough to allow the usual topic discussion to run it's course yet not long enough for topics on service items (threw a rod, frozen calipers, worn out seats, timing, radiator, transmission, axles, etc) to really take off. Yes, there have been a few threads on those topics but again, it's only been five years so I predict there will be at least 3-4 more years of BS discussions until the service threads really take off, and believe me, they will. When you sell 75K/yr of something as complex as a vehicle and you add people who think they know more than the guys who designed the 4Runner then yes, service threads are a certainty lol. Even if everyone did what they were supposed to eventually stuff will wear out.

Only on a 4Runner forum would it take 8-9 years for the service related DIY threads to start popping up. :lol:

I have been researching buying a 4Runner. I am sure I will stick around and read/BS now that I bought one.

I joined to look for help on learning to drive off-road better, I haven't come across much of that. I have found all the pics of off-road rigs, both modded and stock, give me confidence to take my T4R places I never would have dreamed of taking my Bronco. The Bronco forums were much more concerned with maintenance and repair. I've learned stuck is a temporary situation and just a good learning experience.

Also because a friend with a Taco told me the best way to waste money on my truck was to join the forums. I had managed to refrain from this until this week when I ordered the TRD Pro center bumper trim! I blame [MENTION=105836]NWA16711[/MENTION], parked next to his rig my T4R looked like a minivan! Must... Be... More manly!

It's funny, this forum. I get slammed all the time for being an old timer and having "cronies" that group together to bash new guys. The truth is most of us old timers have fought and argued with each other too! Once you are here awhile and read a few hundred or a few thousand of someone's posts you get to know them pretty well and there are a lot of stand up guys here. I get a kick out of someone with 20 posts thinking they know me lol.

Actually looking for info and build ideas. Pick up our new truck tomorrow. Out with the highlander and in with the 4Runner! Plus I love the photo threads. I've wheeled quite a bit in Moab and some in Colorado and New Mexico but with my buddy and the Hummer Club.

Looking forward to returning to my roots with camping and spending more time out of the city.

And unlike the Audi forums I also frequent, at least people here add utility and function to their vehicles.

Well, the point usually is that it is something hashed out to the point it is irritating. When you are new, nothing seems really irritating except working for an answer. When you've answered a few thousand times the same question... And people aren't always nice in how they ask or come off as dicks... Yeah, your going to probably have a few short answers.
