Alternate Use for a Winch

i found another great use this weekend for my winch:
i had some bushes in the front yard i had been meaning to remove and replace for a while but im lazy and its a lot of work so i naturally had been putting it off. i realized that if i used my winch to pull them out of the ground, it would the cut the time need to get them out of the ground in half... it worked great :bigok:
dug out around the roots and wrapped a chain around it and attached the winch cable

end product. pulled out about 4 of them, saved me tons of digging

Yeah, before I ever used my winch off-road, I used it to help "direct" the fall of some trees that were leaning towards my neighbor's yard. Worked like a champ!

im going to use it to pull some small trees growing in places i dont want trees this weekend. should save me more time and labor, cant wait

yea i used my warn 9.5ti and a snatch block to pull over a tree in my parents yard last summer...





this tree didnt want to come, it would just lift up my truck a drag it even with me in it and it in 4lo and me on the breaks

finally had to pull the other way and park in the neighbors drive way and tie off to one of their big fir trees, even then it lifted up the front of the truck off the ground

yeah i was a little worried once i tied off to the other tree, and was using the snatch block(so now i was pulling at 19,000lbs) and the front of my truck was sitting about 10-12" off the ground and my winch started really bogging down, i was hopping the tree would give first, before the winch or frame or winch mounts, which i have tied into my frame, front spring hangers and motor mounts. so if that went, the motor, and my front axle would all come with it, that push bar is also tied into it as well. i hope i never have to replace my front bumper (cause it aint coming out lol)

Old farmer trick is put an old rim standing up next to the tree and run the cable over it, then tie off low on the tree. Makes the pull force vertical. Thank me later.

Great idea.
I was using my hi-lift to yank a bush but it wanted to lay over so I used my winch to hold the top and keep it vertical.

thats a great idea, i never would have thought of that. i'll be sure to remember that when i go to pull a tree out of the ground. appreciate the input

[MENTION=14772]shootmymime[/MENTION] has it exactly right. (Great art, by-the-way.) The bigger the rim the better. The farmer would use a tractor rear rim but I've done it with an old 18". Any decent tire store that does trucks will probably give you one for free off the big pile behind the store.

Used my winch when I cleared some small trees around a bank with a pond. Pulled them up the bank to cut up. Careful not to put to much stress on your cable pulling. I put a heavy shirt jacket or blanket over top in case it broke.
