Alternators + water

Let's say that I was driving in water for a prolonged period of time. Do I risk the chance of starving my electrical if my alternator is below the waterline as I drive?

Has anyone figured out the solution to this?

well prolonged is how long, dual battery is the only solution for extended, but i mean how long do plan on going through that deep of water? you can probably do a full 20-45 mins on a single battery on a river crossing..if you want longer then what dual batteries provide get a submarine.....

or ultimately what you could do is look at making a custom bracket and move the location of the alt. higher up in the engine compartment...still though, alt's don't function very well underwater the charge between the brushes gets lost when submerged
