How do LED bulbs work in the standard headlight lens?

I decided to try Sylvania Ultra LED 9003 H4 bulbs in my 1996 4Runner. Whenever I drive I turn my lights on. Standard halogen bulbs draw a lot of power. I have a high power stereo so that is a major power draw too. I had my alternator tested and it was not returning much charge back to my battery. My solution is installing a new alternator and switching to LED bulbs. Let me know if you have changed to LEDs and how they are working for you. Thanks!

I have LEDs in my stock housing and I'm looking to set it back to hallogen bc EVERYONE thinks my brights are on when I am driving. It's also illegal in every state I've ever been in to have LED bulbs in hallogen housing, so if I get in a wreck I'm basically automatically at fault. Id recommend just biting the bullet and getting the LED housing if you are set on getting LED bulbs. Aint strictly speaking cheap but its the right way to do it.

Agreed, LEDs in stock housings are a no no. They don’t work well and are unsafe for others on the road.

Get some simple projectors and you will be very happy with the light output.

I've never bought this exact product but have had great experience with SRQ fabrications.

My 2001 came with cheap LEDs that pi$$ed off everyone. I replaced them with LEDs that have a cutoff shield over the low beam element, and re-aimed the headlights. No more issues.
I have not used the Sylvania unit, but the photo on the product box shows the cutoff shield. I'd use them.

I have AUXITO LED light bulbs. Those come on 16 cree (8 per-side) or 12 cree (6 per side) LED bulbs. I opt to 16 (as always better!) and those just slide in and works great! the LED's a housed right where the incandescent filament is located. You just need to slightly adjust the beam, otherwise, no issues what so ever. It draws about 3 A per bulbs and a job well done!
