I recently moved from Oregon to Colorado and for the 1st couple months my runner ran fine until I left her parked for a couple weeks. At 1st she'd sputter a 'lil at the low rpms, now after a road trip this weekend the check engine light came on along with the vps?? lights. Any suggestions what can be done?? a friend said it might just need the computer reset to adjust to altitude, i can only imagine what that could cost at the dealer.

Disconnecting the battery will usually reset the computer and the car will take new measurements the next time you drive it.
That being said, I lived in Asmara, Eritrea for three years (7,500 feet) with several runs to sea level and back and never had to make any "altitude" adjustments.

The engine automatically makes adjustments real time as you drive. All the engine sensors work together to optimize the performance. Altitude effects the air density, pressure and temperature and sensors like the MAF and O2 sensors will pick up any relevant changes.
I dont know what the 'vps' light is, but pop down to a local autoparts store and ask them to read the error code using the OBD II scanner, then post the code here and we'll help you out. Let us know the model details of your ride too.

The on board computer has detected a malfunction in the engine control system, the engine malfunction is detected first and immediately after that the traction control and vehicle skid control are disabled, this happens anytime there is a check engine light, there is usually nothing wrong with the trac/vsc system, get it hooked to a scanner to find out what caused the check engine light to turn on and then fix that problem, once this is corrected the check engine, vsc/trac lights will go off.
