Am I nuts to do this?

To get the TE w/ KDSS but NOT Nav~ I'd have to buy from a left coast dealership and have it shipped back to NY....

To me Nav is just a gadget I wont use but will have to pay to fix should it ever go, and doin some research here tells me I'd be happier without the Toyota setup.

Even after the shipping I was quoted I'd still save about $1k over getting it with Nav here. Am I nuts to do this? Is there anything I would be well advised to do/ ask/ verify before doing so?

Thanks (again) everyone~ I'll be posting pics of her soon!

Oh, did I mention... that upon seeing an 08 in blue pearl today- my mind is set on the Shoreline! :guitar2:

Just order one without Nav. Don't pay attention to what toyota.com says for what you're allowed to build... you CAN order a TE w/out Nav.

That's what they mustve thought about the Tom tom in the Urban Runner, no? 2 years later and that's as old school as original walkman. My phone has great nav built right in, and who knows what the technology will be doing in 10+ years while I'm still driving it? Isn't it a couple hundred dollars to have the DVD nav updates installed, or something ridiculous like that?

I think I'd spend the bucks getting the Nav rather than pay for shipping something you can probably locate closer to home.

Why not get something local and put the xtra dough in a decent lift, tires, or some other add on that will make your ride a bit more "you"

good luck...hope you find what you're looking for...Pat

Every dealer I've spoken to wont even humor that request~

If you have one by you who'll match, not even beat, the (above invoice, but not crazy) prices I have on the table I'll order it right this very second, pick it up in WV when it arrives, throw him an extra hundred in cash for doing it and give you a hundred as well for helping make it happen!

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies and food for thought!

I could order it local without the KDSS, add lifts and tires, heated seats and whatever else~ sure, though without having the opportunity to drive one's with it and without it back to back I'd rather be safe than sorry I didn't get the better suspension. Not that I'll be doing any real rock climbing or anything, but based on what I've read~ I'd also prefer the handling characteristics on-road with the KDSS as opposed to without...

Can anyone who has driven both compare their on-road demeanors?

I had the same problem. I had to convince a local dealer to put in a preference request after proving to him it could be done. Shortly after I put in my deposit, they called and asked if I would accept a Shoreline Blue Pearl TE with KDSS and no Nav; I said no and mine arrived on the same boat. It's still sitting at Toyota of Lake City as far as I know.

Your locals can put in a preference request, no matter what they tell you. But they have to put in the request and wait, versus selling you what they get in normal allocation. They aren't used to working for a living, apparently, because they'd rather spend 2 weeks telling you "no" than one hour filling out paperwork.

My concern with interstate transport/purchase is: what do you do if you have an issue with it when it arrives? Send it back?

Good point on arrival issues, that's certainly a concern. It makes no sense to me that the dealer out west said he has a few on the lot without nav he can't move and people waiting to get ones with the nav...and mine won't even order me one. I understand moving what's on the lot is their priority, but once it becomes clear that I'm not buying from them otherwise you'd figure they'd write it up and make theirs. I sell magazine advertising, and sure I always have a next issue closing soon that I'd love another sale for, so I get monthly quotas/bonuses... but if someone tells me no because they'd rather have their ad run in September instead (like them having to wait for the preference request to become a bona fide sale) I'd take the order, happily, and with a smile

Thanks for posting your pics by the way, Mike. If I hadn't seen them I'd be ordering silver! Being that I've only seen the '08 in whatever the pearl blue was called at the time~ is Shoreline the same color??? (please say yes!)

They really only sell non-navigation TE's here in Sourthern California... I searched high and low for a TE with KDSS and Navigation. I found one in the Bay Area, one in Washington, one in Utah, and one in Texas; the one in CA they wouldn't budge from MSRP -$500 and Washington sold before I got to it. We should have met half way :lookout:

I can not vouch for the color being similar to anything. I checked every bluish thing on the lot when trying to track down a TE in this color and when it got here, it wasn't the same as anything. When the sun is out, it's one color. When it's cloudy, it's another. When it's next to a blue car it looks gray, when next to a black one it looks almost purple, and when it's next to a gray one it looks blue. All I can say is that the color you see in the pics is the color I saw when I took them, as I see it on my monitor.
