Am I tripping?

Just got my first 4Runner two weeks ago, 2002 back in black sports edition, stoked. Is it just me, with my hand on the shift stick, when I accelerate or take my foot off the gas pedal, that it moves back and forth? I can feel it jerk. Just asking.

It's possible. When you accelerate the transmission moves on its mounts and everything attached to it would feel the movement, including your shifter. Its much more noticeable on standards.

That's normal since the tranny has to flex a bit.
