Amber Fog Lights

Hey all!

I am in the hunt for a set of LED amber fog lights but am indecisive. More or less, I need more info. And in this case of needing more info, I need pictures!

I've narrowed my search down to three LED housings and they are as follows (with links)

1. Baja Designs Squadron Sport Amber WC

My concern for the Baja Designs fog lights are the cut-off. From pictures I have seen they have a fantastic output, but I've never seen any cut-off pictures...

2. The Retrofit Source: Toyota XB Morimoto LED WITH Lamin-X Fog Light Film

My concern for the Morimoto XB is the Lamin-X that has to be put on the front of the lens. I'm not too fond of putting anything on lights - especially if it's on the front of the vehicle.


3. Kustom 54 Lighting (The Retrofit Source LED housing with amber lens inside assembly)

My concern for the Kustom 54's is that they are waaaaay low on the kelvins. It looks like in the picture they are well below 2,700K.. Nice cut-off, but crappy output (according to the pictures in daylight...)



NOTE: I'm pretty picky with how the light will project or cut-off. I would like to have a nice, clean cut off with the new housings.


So, for those of you who have a set up like one of these or something else that has worked for you, post a pic!!

the lamin-x covers are good to go.

I run 2in1 led fogs w/ lamin-x and have no problems with light output or cutoff.

The 2 in 1 led fogs are considered a OEM option for some years, so they do have a sharp cutoff, and the lamin-x doesn't mess with the cutoff or the output.

I didn't go the baja route like everybody else, mainly b/c i don't like square lights, and I don't want my fog lights to blind everyone in day to day driving. If i want to blind people, i have plenty of other lights on my vehicle that act as Fu.K you lights.

So of your 2 options, i personally like the aesthetics of the morimotos w/ lamin-x...... but that's just me.

Thanks for your response.

I'm on the same boat with you with style. I like the style factor of the Morimoto and not too much the squareness of the Baja's.

How long have you had the Morimotos?

I went with the 2 in 1's because it uses the OEM fog light switch and it uses a separate OEM switch for the halo

I was just commenting on your post and I wanted to say the Lamin-x is good to go....

IMO, you will not be able to run these at all on the road, at all, if people are around.

Some people here claim to run them without any problem, but I personally cannot come close to seeing that as a reality. Mine are aimed down as far as they can go (which isn't much at all), and they light up absolutely everything.

I tried driving with them at night once, and was flashed nearly instantly. And I have no lift.

Seriously, overpass signs on the highway get hit by them.

That said, when no one is around, they are incredible. I wish I could feel comfortable driving with them all the time. Once you get used to the yellow, your vision is remarkable.
 
I went with the H16 HID from XenonDepot and the Laminx. The fogs are crazy bright. I added the Lamin-X for the look. The lights are fantastic, and plug n play. Took less than 5min per side.

The lamin-x. Pain in my butt as I did this in my garage here in Boston and did not have my garage heat on. I used the wet method, and the curved plastic made it a little painful. I resorted to a heat gun on low and problem solved in seconds....Look great. 140 bucks total.
 
If you want to just look cool and drive around with your amber fog lights on all the time the Baja ones are not for you.

If you want a set of lights that actually work in the fog and only should be used when other vehicles are not around then go with the bajas. I went with the driving combo lights and couldn't be happier.

When I drive with my fog lights on I use them just like my high beams. I just turn them off when vehicles are approaching.
 
Not to side track, but I have seen "• 2010-2018 Toyota 4Runner (Base/SR5 Only)" listed on a couple of options out there. What is the issue with off-road or pro rigs? Or is it just the limited that won't work?
And what about replacement bulbs for the units, how available are they?

How is the color output? I know that films can "add" a color to a light, but some may not perform like they should.

Thanks for that info. I love the BD lights, but I run my fogs often (almost always on after doing the fog light mod) and don't feel the need to piss on-coming drivers off.

For the most part anything that has a better output then stock fog lights is going to piss on oncoming traffic.
 
I went with the BD Squadron Pro driving comb in amber. I too prefer the round lights instead of 4 bulbs, but they've grown on me. I love how bright these lights are. Heck, I wish they were brighter.

I wanted a cleaner application for ditch lights and these fit the bill perfectly for me. They have worked great in the fog as well.
 
Wouldn't recommend Baja if you are looking to run them on road. Even their sports are too bright, but you can somewhat get away with them. Supposedly they're making a set that'll be road legal sometime in early 2019?

I love my Baja's and only use them on the trail, though if I'm in a very rural area at night I'll run them and kill them when I see headlights approaching. And I have been known to flip them on to the douche drivers.
