American made D-ring trailer hitch receiver

Hi All

I want to buy a American made D-ring trailer hitch receiver similar to this EAG Receiver Hitch D-Ring with Black 3/4 inch Shackle for 2 inch Receivers Includes Red D-Ring Isolators and Hitch Pin PN# JJKML033

Most of the ones I’ve seen are Chinese. I want to buy American. Can anyone recommend an American brand. The only one I know of is Factor 55.

Rigid TSM-22-C Enhanced Tow Strap Shackle Mount For 2" Receivers

This one is steel instead of aluminum if you want something a bit stronger than aluminum for whatever reason.

Or just get a soft shackle or tree strap and a hitch pin and skip the stinger and shackle assembly. I don't think they add any utility. Just more stuff to carry.

Factor 55 + the crosby shackle. that's what I have on all the time. I don't bother to take it off. I have the factor 55 lock pin as well

You shouldn't use a hitch pin or the ball on your hitch. Get a 2" shackle from agency6 and do it correctly. Has to do with the forces you are applying to the pin and where the strength is.

The ball is a bad idea. They are not strong enough and the leverage in single shear is a big problem for low quality hitch balls. They also make a pretty dangerous projectile.

The hitch pin is perfectly fine. It's the most common way to do it. You'd need to be north of 100,000 lbs of force to break a hitch pin. If you wanted to really go crazy you could cut a 2" piece of 1.125x.857 DOM and make a sleeve for the hitch pin. It's not necessary or useful in real life, but it would increase the theoretical strength of the assembly.

If you're looking for more farkle - the stinger with a shackle is great. I haven't done the math, but I'm pretty sure the aluminum ones are weaker than a hitch pin attachment. A steel one is probably stronger. But it's all academic. You won't break any of them. They're all perfectly fine for the forces involved. You won't cut the strap. I've done this hundreds of times from every angle as have thousands of others. Straps are hard to cut and the corners aren't very sharp.
