Hey guys. I have an '07 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition. I am looking to buy some Subs, (amp of course), and a new HeadUnit. I was looking on BestBuy.com and found some 12" Kickers with the enclosure (here's a link--> Kicker - 12" Dual 2-Ohm Subwoofers with Enclosure - DC122)
I just needed help finding an amp to complement these two kickers to the fullest but not ridiculously priced like in the thousands. I also would like a recommended double-din headunit. Thanks for helping! :)

As a now 46 year old male, I've been into car stereos for 30 years. Owned numerous, numerous vehicles over that period and came to the conclusion years ago that ALPINE, ROCKFORD FOSGATE & JL AUDIO is the way to go.

Kicker makes a damn good sub, not super quality, but damn good. Me personally, I'd power those subs with an amp from Rockford Fosgate. RF builds quality amps...I wouldn't reccommend any other product of theirs, but the amps KICK ASS.

ALPINE head units are quality stuff...somewhat pricey for the top shelf units though. I have an ALPINE double-din that I bought back in 1999 thats still in my '98 Limited. I believe it set me back $1100 back then, 3 disc changer, flip down face, BBE processing, built in equlizer and all kinds of other ****.

Most of my system is pretty old, (2) JL Audio 10" W7 subs, (2) Alpine V12 amps, Alpine tweeters in the A-pillars, Alpine 6 3/4 in the front doors, Alpine 5 1/4 (modified) in the rear doors. The subs are in a single sealed box and all the wiring is Phoenix Gold.

I have younger dudes that think the system is relatively new and they're amazed at the punch the subs have when sitting in the back seat. Most of them tell me it feels like someones hitting them in the back with a baseball bat when the bass hits.

Terrible pic, but the only one I have handy:

alpine WAS the best, i have been selling and installing alpine head units since the days of thepull out casset deck. he is right they used to be the best, not sure what happened but as of 08-09 the sound quality/ease of use you get from anapline can be bested for less money by kenwood and pioneer. with double din units it depends on what your priority is the kenwood has what most of my customers say is the easiest to use navigation, while pioneer has by far the best i pod interface on the market. both will give you blue tooth with most models. that said, for those three companies i am speaking of head units. i wouldnt buy an amp from any of the three, pioneer and kenwood make worthless amps and alpine while ok you can get way more for your money from rockford, or jl audio. i run a pioneer avicz130bt and jl audio amps in my car and same head unit with rockford t series amps in my wifes car both sound great for speakers and sube there are many many choices, i dont believe anyone makes a better sub than jl audio for a budget sub the 12w3 is a great sub and they only run about 220 each if budget is no object the w6 and w7 are two of the best in the world for mids and highs check out focal. at every price point that they make a speaker in ( they start around 200) they sound much betteer than anything else.

Well considering the two subs I am looking at buying are 12" Dual 2-Ohm Subwoofers, what kind of wattage do I need for both subs. to run to the fullest? (Handles up to 600W peak power (300W RMS))
Thanks for all the help so far guys! I appreciate it!

Ill post a pic of my set up when i get it. I just got the Kicker amp mentioned above. they were all sold out of the RF's for a while. Thanks for all the help guys.

Well

I agree with one of the guys above , Alpine , Fosgate , and JL Audio are all top of the line , but through development and the purchasing or swallowing if you will , of other companies has made several other companies very competitive . I had a crunch amp on my Type R's and though its not the best amp out ,my trunk still was thunderous. Memphis is a grat name brand , Diamond , even going with a nice Kicker amp would work. I recommend going with a crossover , even though they have a built in one you always get cleaner bass with an add on crossover , mainly because the built in x-over is mediocre at best... Hi-Phon. still makes a good amp, soundstream is still top of the line. with 2-2 ohm speaks you want a high current amp, that gives more pwer the lower it goes, maybe even something that is a 1/2 ohm stable . If you get a few ideas I woluld be glad to look over their specs..

I just got my two 12'' Kickers with the Enclosure and a Kicker ZX750 amp. This is rockin my world right now. Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it. :thanks::biggrin2::banana::bluejump::party:
