Im not sure how small you were thinking but I have a 200 watt MTX amp underneath the passenger seat.

On my old 4Runner, I put in underneath the driver's seat. You don't need to screw it down, either (unless you want to). I just put some velcro strips on the bottom on the amp. That held it in place nicely.

wen i had a 96 base 4runner, i put my jl audio 300/4 amp under the driver seat, and it fit quite good, now that car was totaled, i was able to put that same amp under the driver seat on my 07 sport v6 4x4, and i have my jl audio 500/1 amp hidden in my cargo storage.

Rear heat equipped Runners have a fan under there and mounting the amp close to it probably isn't a good idea.

I don't have the rear heat and my amp is under the passenger seat too.

Thanks. Is it ok to mount the amp directly on the carpet? I like the velcro idea. I have taken some measurements and I am looking at the Sony slim 4ch. For me, the price point is good and read some good things about it. If mounted under the driver's seat, I've read that the seatbelt connection on the floor is a good place to ground. Any thoughts on that? The amp is the last piece of the puzzle. Then the tear down begins. Luckily, my pops has a killer set of tools.

if u want under the seats, under the drivers seat is prob best. I would also recommend a simple mounting to one of the rear folding seats as well, both places work great. Some people have even installed their amps in the storage compartment in the rear.

Seat bolts are not a great ground IMO. I would suggest sanding the paint off of an area close to the seat bolt hole, make sure there isnt anything under it, and attach your ground ring terminal to that bare metal with a self-tap screw. I usually suggest putting a screw on the side of the terminal that prevents it from loosening itself. After, if you can apply some spraypaint to the underside where the screw pokes through, it will prevent rust.
