Amp power cord/stereo choices

All,

I've done a search on "where's the best play to run the amp power cord through the firewall". No answers..

Where is the easiest place to run the amp power cord through the firewall?

I plan on mounting the amp under the seat.

Also, I do have the JBL with the RDS "sub in the back" and steering wheel mount controls. I'm looking at purchasing a new head unit. I will be getting a remote so I don't plan on using the steering wheel mount controls with the new head unit. I already have Fosgate P2's in box so I don't care about that wimpy sub in the back.

My decision is between 2 head units in this order,
1. JVC Arsenal KD-A925BT $249
2. Pioneer DEH-P7200HD $269


My priorities are at least 4 volts preamp outputs, remote, high cd signal to noise ratio >100 db, and high and low pass filters.

Anyone have either of these 2??


I use to have the Pioneer DEH-P7800MP, this thing was the bomb.

I wouldn't be so caught up in thinking you need to have the higher 4v outputs. The only purpose a high pre-out voltage has is to reduce some noise. The signal traveling to the amplifier can pick up all kinds of stray signals. By increasing the output voltage from the signal source, we can reduce the amp gain and thus reduce noise.

Lots of people have problems with noise in their setups, especially if the RCAs get close to power wire. Your amps' gain is not going to know the difference between being adjusted for 4v or say 2v outs. That's what the gain is for...it's is used to match the amplifier's output voltage to its maximum by compensating for your different input voltages.

It will not make your amp work less or run cooler. The amp is only capable of a certain voltage. A higher pre-out voltage will actually make the amp work a little harder and run hotter, as it will reach its maximum output voltage faster.

The lower your gains are on the amp, the less noise you get...which is why it's smart to "overbuy" your amp in terms of RMS power. Keeps you from having to turn up the gain as far to get the output you're after.

Thanks but the goal of having a higher preout voltage is to reduce noise. So I bought the JVC Arsenal with 5 volts. Will post pics after install.

Any ideas where is the best place on the firewall to run the amp power cord through??

I'm not sure if the 4th gen has the same factory wire harness that passes through the firewall like the 3rd gen does but I used the same pass through as the factory harness. Since I only needed to run one wire (the power wire) through and I used a 4AWG for my amp and it fit fine. The ground is done to my seat bolt ( I dremmeled the paint off the floor, bolt, and seat mount to get good contact) works great.

Basically I took a big nail and cut the head off, taped it to the amp power wire, used a bit of grease on the tip (lol) and slid it through the factory hole (giggity).

Otherwise you need to just pick a spot and drill it out, if you go this route you should get a firewall grommet to protect the wire and you can get those anywhere on line.

Just ran some 2 gauge today and used the small solid grommet that was on the passenger side firewall near where the main loom goes through. It was an easy routing from there:
