AMSOIL and API

I have just gotten through changing the oil in the wifes Miata when I happend to notice on the bottle of AMSOIL XL-7500 there is a little circle stating Americian Petroleum Institute Certified....humm and yes the API donut is on the back,,,with a SL rating,,,

so according to this the AMSOIL will not void you Warrnty, and at 3.95 a quart is a good deal

Thanks for the information. Isn't that Amsoils dino oil? Their synthetic is not API, or is it???

The XL-7500 is certified. The 100% synthetic 5-30 high performance is not certified. Amsol E-mailed me back to explain. They said they do not agree with some of the regulations put on the oil to be certified, plus the cost to get certified. They said if I didn't want to use the 5-30 100% synthetic, then I should use the XL-7500, which is certified.

as far as the 5-30 synthetic it recomends a 25,000 mile drain intervel,,,,not to sure about that one, The XL-7500 i have ran for years and change it every 5000 miles or 50 hours in the mower/generator/pressure washer ect

I remember reading a post about a lexus. Toyota blamed it(sludge or something) on the oil, then amsoil blamed it on toyota. What are you supposed to do then? I would rather stick with the mobil 1 synthetic till the warranty runs out. I know Amsoil is a very good brand of oil, but I wouldn't want the headache if something did happen. Unless you use the XL-7500 the you are fine.

Can you pick up Amsoil locally at a store? I haven't exactly looked for it, but I know they don't have it at Walmart or Costco.

If you could, I might consider that, but I know I could get Mobil 1 at Costco for ~$24 for a 6 quart pack.

But if I could pick it up locally, I'll have my dad use it as well for my parent's cars, and since they make it the XL-7500 in 5w30 and 5w20, he shouldn't have any prob with it.

AMSOIL has to be bought from a dealer, wallyworld or any chain auto parts will not have it, I am a prefered customer for 20.00 a year I can order directly from AMSOIL. and get everything at dealer cost, if you use a much oil and lubricants as me it is well worth it(lawn equip,ATV,Boat,Cars.ect. check out their website for details. www.amsoil.com. I have often thought about giving out my password and letting anyone that wants to oreder form them do it in my name, doubt they would like it, but they probly would not catch on to it.
