I got a kick out of your comment CJ3 ... i do believe you know exactly what kind of woman I'm dealing with. When my friend (female) urged me to meet her I initially wasn't interested because my friend raved that her girlfriend was the kind of woman whose 'makeup is always perfect." I thought someone like that would be high-maintenance and/or self centered. (Besides, my personal style pegs the "casual/sloppy" end of the GQ meter most of the time and I'm fine with that.) Anyway, glad I reconsidered, because she's great and sweet. Even this time, she wanted me to have the stuff I wanted on the 4Runner, even though it's her car.
That said, she doesn't care if there's a three-pointed star or a blue oval on the hood as long as the car rides smoothly, has leather, power passenger seat and -- lol -- an excellent lighted visor/vanity mirror. (I'm serious)
I do the driving 90% of the time. But for those occasions she'll have to drive herself, she shouldn't be so afraid now with the 4Runner. (We're in Houston, where quite a few streets and access roads can become dangerous anytime it rains for an hour or more, as these pics from 2001 show:

Sure do. he's actually the youngest. From previous marriage I have a daughter who's 26 and a son, 28. married early. maybe a little too young. (btw, it wasn't a Remington 870 marriage
How do you like those Wranglers? I don't know if Toyota dealer installed new Grandtreks or they were just 'beautified' ... there's lots of tread, but I've heard mixed things on those tires. a tire dealer friend claimed the AT 20s are not great in the rain. (and he's in southern calif.!) She hasn't complained, but know wife would appreciate a ride more like the 2WD/V6 we first drove .... i'm open to experimenting to get little better ride, fuel economy.

Welcome and congrats on the 4Runner! =) You will love it. If you plan on doing the oil change yourself, I'm not sure how the V8 engine looks like in the 4Runner though, but I know in the V6 the filter is just inside the engine compartment bay, under the beauty cover. If the V8 in the 4Runner is the same as my GX (in terms of oil filter locations, etc) then it might be the old conventional locations hehe..
Secondly, I'm impressed that the 4Runner reminds you of a Mercedes E-class. Are you sure you are talking about the current E-class? I've driven an E350 and those things are FAST, and pretty smooth (but I have not driven a sport E350 yet)

Thanks. I was reminded of only the quiet, solidness and 'heavy' steering of a '07 Bluetec E, but not thinking the performance. (both are more than adequate.) I haven't driven 4Runner much and haven't stomped on it. more amazed at the E320 getting 550 miles out of a tank of fuel over 2.5 weeks. and my wife didn't even know it was a diesel.
let's see if Toyota offers a turbodiesel in next generation 4R and in future Tundras. i see some enterprising souls w/older 4Runners haven't waited. (apologies in advance if this doesn't come out as a proper hyperlink. i'm new to forums and hitting the "http://" button in the tool bars may not be fully WYSIWYG?)
