...and boom goes the Dynamite (Toytech discount code needed, opinions welcome too)

I was just browsing the forums and saw a thread which was asking about removing the inner bump stop cone from the rear springs during the OME instal. It seems logical enough to remove, and it would seem to limit travel after of the new springs. I just want to make sure thats correct before I toss them?

Time and frustrations permitting, I want to do another write-up on this instal. I know there are a few, but one more from a different perspective never hurts.

A couple of the guys from here and I went wheeling yesterday and were talking about the cones. Both had 890s, one with cones, one without and the one without sat ~.5" lower. I also have my cones in with my 891s and have never had any limiting issues. I've sat the truck on the cones before, but by that time the tires was fully stuffed into the fender. I'd leave em in.

Thats interesting. You would think there would be more threads about this with all the suspension threads. Maybe the lack of a cone results in more initial flex, but because of increase compression, wears down the spring quicker?

Your also right, those 285s are likely to rub first.

I can only say that I run with the cones in I do not think it hurts the spring or the flex. But I am positive it affects the overall amount of lift.

If you decide not to use your cones I'm sure I could find them a welcome home.

If you are concerned about not getting flex pull your sway bars as I have done but then drive at your own risk as you will have much more body roll.

Remember these are just my opinions.

:biggrin2: Looks like your getting enough flex for my tastes. I was not too concerned with issues of flex, as any added flex would be better than my stockers that currently are sitting near my axle bump stops. My main reason for wondering is because none of the write-ups mentioned it one way or the other.

I think I will keep that extra .5" and leave the cones in. I am going to be looking into some quick disconnects for the sways in the near future, so with photos like yours, I think I will be satisfied with the results.

I am very happy with the OME 881/890 setup for the money IMO that is the most bange for your buck.

Something to keep in mind is I as have others had problems with CV boots shortly after the lift, as the original boots will ware in then when you chage the geometry they like to leak/tare I chose to replace the axels and keep the old ones for spare parts when out on the trail. some people just replace the boots. just keep an eye on them if they start throwing grease. do one or the other.

I wonder if some rubber conditioner would help ease that ware and exposure damage. Good thing I am going to be spending some time down there. It will be nice to get a real good look at everything to see what could use some TLC.

If nothing else, the lift will make that process easier! HA!
