And So it Begins:) 99 Runner build

Well here is the development of the Day. I was talking to a friend and told him about my runner and he told me that he knew of a 98 sr5 runner with a blown engine that I might be able to get for about 2k. Well he called tonight and told me that he talked to the guy and I can get it for 2200. I am going to look at it tomorrow and I suspect I will buy it. Oh yea here is the best part. it is a 5speed (which is all I will have) and it's supercharged. Also the motor isn't blown but the block has a crack in it and throws oil everywhere apparently. Anybody ever heard of that? I may start another thread about that. It has been well taken care of and is super straight. I will post up pics if I buy it but right now dont see any reason not to:guitar3: After I get my insurance settlement and buy the 99 back everything will get moved over, suspension, tires and wheels. diff drop and panhard bar. as well as engine with that beautiful supercharger sitting on top. then we will see what interior pieces need to be moved. to bad it's not a 99 but I can move all of my interior over if need be. Great news the 98 is in near perfect condition with the exception of a bad head gasket, and an interior that has been smoked in for the last 13 years. Rough for those of us with asthma but those are easy to fix. $2200 and its mine. Started up and ran smooth but smoked from the head gasket. The best part is that it is a factory TRD supercharged 5speed. pulled right up on my trailer and the 4x4 works perfect. I will post pics later. Thanks for all the moral support guys. The next build begins soon:D
 
How hard would it be to swap the '98 body onto the '99 frame? Congrats on a good find, the supercharger is worth nearly that $2200 you paid. Wish there was a larger 'fan-base' for 4R's on the East Coast but I make due.
 
well got to spend some time with the 98 this afternoon. I started by pulling the dip stick and found that the motor had between 8 and 9 quarts of oil in it. So I changed the oil and paid close attention to the oil coming out. There was not a single drop of coolant in the oil so when I was done I started it up and looked for pressure in the cooling system. Found none at all. After the oil change I drove the runner around and am getting no steam from the exhaust or blue smoke. I don't think the head gasket is blown. I think that someone overfilled the motor with oil, and then the pressure pushed oil out of every seal and up into the top of the motor causing it to burn a little oil. I basically got the deal of a lifetime. :trophy:
 
I just read the last few pages and wow. What a read. I don't know you, we've obviously never met, but you're a pretty good person to have the attitude you did with your rig getting rolled over. It's understandable to have that reaction if you're a person who doesn't love cars the way a lot of us here seem to, but it's that much more impressive to have it when you do. It is just a material thing at the end of the day and there's so much more out there that is irreplaceable. Your friend made a mistake, a HUGE mistake, but it sounds like he's owning up to it.

As far as the replacement rig, it was seriously sweet to read about the over oil situation. I'm not going to sit here and say it was a bit of good for having a good attitude about the roll over because I've seen plenty of good things happen to not so good people. It does make me super stoked though to read/see/hear about something good happening to someone good. I look forward to seeing pics of the new one and it's future transformation!

Thanks yeah he is owning up to it with out a doubt and that really makes it easier to have a good attitude. And your right i totally agree that this new rig is simply a gift not because of my attitude. We can't live trying to have a good attitude to get stuff we just have to keep our priorities straight and then when something like the new rig happens we can simply say thank you instead of feeling like its something the world owed us. I will have pics up today of the new rig. It is going to need a new nose cone bearing in the supercharger and so i am reading and looking into what that will entail.

Hello All. I am looking for a 1996 or newer 4runner 4x4. My budget is $2200, but I am not picky and I am open to ANY mileage.

My only necessities are 4 wheel drive, 3.4, and a solid engine and trans. I don't care about cosmetics, brakes, tires, etc. I know this is a tough budget to obtain. Please PM me if you have a 4runner you want to unload or know someone who would rather their old sled find a a good home than trade in to their local dealer. I will travel to you where ever you are in the continental USA to pick up and of course I will pay cash.

Man sorry to break it down to you but, a running condition 3rd Gen. 4Runner's re-sale value don't go that low, not even a 2WD version I don't think.

You might have to wait a few more years with that offer. Save up and you'll surely find your find.:cheers:
