They are doing the same thing with the Samsung S6. The least expensive is 32Gb. Add $100 and get the 64Gb or add $200 and get the 128Gb. This is a common marketing scheme and the bottom line is you get what you pay for.

You really think that an increase in investment decreases justification incentive?

I think you'd have a hard time promoting that idea whether it was with a social scientist or a cab driver.

By the time you factor in the OS, what's left of 32GB is nothing--especially since most phones won't let you do an SD card expansion and not all apps will be mounted to the SD card, and not all music/video/etc. downloads will let themselves be put on external storage.

Regardless, they're overcharging like hell for storage.

Everyone is different. For me, saving money on a mobile device and get subpar navigation (is there Google Maps app on Windows?), subpar apps selection (none for my profession/work), subpar camera, subpar display, and questionable future support is simply not a good "investment" in any book of mine. If Windows phone works for you, then great. But, i will never save a penny to compromise my life/work.

It is like saying that why buy a Lexus when a Kia can do the same job.

A good alternative to your phone on Android: Moto G. Check it out next time you buy a new phone. It does everything your phone can (at times much better such as app selection) at a cheap price.

Considered that but I was interested in learning, firsthand, what windows phone was like. I was coming from a feature phone and I enjoy experimenting so it was a perfect time to do it.

Apple fan boy....

The N6 is a great choice for a vanilla Android build with no proprietary software dragging your system down. I've had my N5 for 2 years now and short of it self destructing I don't plan on upgrading any time soon. I even just replaced the screen on it, which was pretty simple doing it myself.

Nexus 6 has S805 chip from Qualcomm.

S805 chip is 32-bit and does NOT support hardware encryption. As you may know, 64-bit chips are rushing to market. These new 64-bit chips follow ARMv8 architecture. ARMv8 is 64-bit, but also runs 32-bit apps faster and more efficiently.

Almost every new phone now and near future have either S808/810 or Samsung Exynos 7 or Mediatek new chips...all ARMv8 architecture. Why does this matter? Well, if flagships and majority phones have these new ARMv8 chips, then app developers will also make apps that are optimized for these high-performing chips. You may say...nahhh, it won't happen.

Look at Asphalt 8 by Gameloft. Asphalt 8 is optimized for S800 chips because that was what all flagship phones had 1-2 yrs ago.

Does it make a difference? Oh yeah. On iOS, game rendering (graphics, frame rate, details) are much better on iPhone 5s/6 than on older iPhones (e.g. 5). Same will happen on Android once these top developers optimize their apps for the new architecture.

It seems like you keep your phone at least 2 yrs (right?). Would you be happy to be 2nd class citizens in terms of app experience in 4-6 months?

Now, 2nd part...for whatever reason, S805 does not support hardware encryption (Qualcomm apparently did not give driver code to Google or whatever). So, when you encrypt your Nexus 6 (again, data protection and prevent corruption by 3rd party), your Nexus 6 will slow down...maybe even slower than your LG G2, despite all those RAM and horsepower of S805 chip.

These are just technical issues that will NOT be solved on Nexus 6. There are other reports of quality issues, but those are probably fixed by manufacturer by the time you buy it.

Personally, I would buy Samsung S6 (if you like Samsung) or LG G4 (if you like LG and its features). Otherwise, I would wait till later this year when Google will release its next gen Nexus phone. And it is 100% likely that it will either have S810 or S820 (ARMv8).

It is only 4-5 months away dude. WAIT.

Android and Apple win over Windows because of apps. It's like any video game console argument, you can't use yours unless there are people willing to develop software for them.

I had Sprint for the longest time because of generous discounts, but their LTE is spotty at best. ATT is expensive as hell, but I have LTE everywhere.

I wish that google had debugged lollipop better, but the current release version is pretty stable on the N6.

The mods Cyanogen lets you do to the basic hardware and functions of the phone are great, I wish google had included them with lollipop, but it's usually a version behind lollipop because google still has to "approve" their releases.

What I use my phones most for are
-Orbitz (travel way too much)
-google maps
-various music streaming services because ******* computer admins block all software and web sites that makes a shitty day at work bearable
-signing, sending, and printing PDFs
-semi-secure email and VPN clients (but nothing is secure anymore)
-amazon
-Netflix and anything over WiFi
-occasional laptop tethering, but WiFi can be stolen just about anywhere and only when I don't trust one of the public connections

I've had a iPhone 6 and a Nexus 5 and Oneplus. All three have their share of issues and bugs, the Oneplus is a developer geek's dream, but I don't like being my own IT guy anymore and companies now adapt android to their phones to make it BETTER, not install bloatware.

Calls are based on phone antenna, network, and to some extent software. Most modern phones don't suck at this.

Could have fooled me by the way you've been defending Apple/IOS over the last 3 pages. I don't care enough to correct or even read half of what you've actually written and in fact I've ignored most of your technical rants. To the every day user, a phone is a phone, nobody cares about encryption or even thinks about it and some people simple enjoy the Android experience over IOS. You're reading far too much into this entire thread as a whole (other than the camera/raw thing, I still agree with you on that but only because I started that argument.)

Even encrypted phones interact with outside servers and can be breached.

Just ask some of the ladies in the fappening... and the ominous fact that intelligence agencies are asking for developers to make back doors, or just get their own hackers to look/exploit them.
