Does anyone else have problems with their phone not auto connecting to their stereo? For the first month (NOV) or so my phone (LG G3) would auto connect every time I would start the car. Since then it rarely auto connects. Maybe 1 out of every 15-20 times it will. Has anyone else had any issues with this? When I try to connect using the head unit it can't connect. If I use the settings from the phone it will connect.

So I think you're talking about Bluetooth connectivity, and this is a known problem with Bluetooth. There are a ton of pretty short threads on this here that you can search for, but there isn't a fix since its an issue with Bluetooth itself and not our Toyota head unit (or any other manufacturer, for that matter).
The lack of connection is always worse when I've changed devices (I have a work and a personal phone), so it doesn't seem to know which to connect to. The best workaround for me and most people I've read is to turn the Bluetooth on your phone off and then on again and it usually connects as long as it was the last device connected. If it wasn't then you have to "Choose Device" from the head unit and ALSO cycle your phone's BT off and then on again.
It's a pain and it should work more seamlessly but hey, it's kind of magic so I try not to complain too much about technology. :tape:

I have the same phone (LG G3) and don't have issues with connecting via Bluetooth, although I turn it off when I leave my car and turn it back on when I get in my car since it's the only place I use bluetooth. And I only use my personal phone, not work phone so no alternating devices as mentioned above.

Might be a wild goose chase, but I found out if I had too many texts on my Android phone, new messages would not be displayed. Solution was to just delete them.
There are apps that can save your texts for you. If you use Verizon's texting app it can save them. Avast used to have an app called 'avast Mobile Backup' (and yes the 'a' was lower case) in the Google Play store, but its not there, you have to side load it. It makes copies of various things to your Google Drive.
There has got to be other apps out there that are not Verizon and not side loaded.
Side load == turn off "only take apps from Google Play" and load a file ending with the extension .apk (.) Great way to get viruses.
I'm not into that side loading, rooting, or cyanogen mod stuff. I need the phone to work, and want the right to ***** if it doesn't.

My fiancé has the same problem in the 5th gen. She has the Galaxy S6 Active and the Note 4 and they are both about 50/50, my iPhone 6s 128 is a little bit better but doesn't always choose to cooperate. The Pioneer stereo in my VW Jetta and 98 Limited never misses a beat though......
Wait, your phone will auto connect via bluetooth every time you start your car with setting the phone to not sent messages to the head unit?
At least I'm not the only one. I swear it worked every time for the first month or so of owning the 2016 TRDP.

Is this an option in the infotainment system?
OK, I disabled every messaging option and it still does not auto connect.
Go to Settings > Phone > Messaging on the head unit. It didn't work for me.

Phone: Moto Z2 Play
Android: 7.1.1
Truck: 2017 TRD Off Road
Issues:
1. It will not always connect when getting into car.
2. When it does connect sometimes it just connects the phone and then starts playing (Spotify) on my phone speaker... wierd.
3. I have tried everything. Wiped the phone. Reset everything still nothing.
4. I have been in other Toyota's and my phone works fine (Camary, highlander)! That is also a weird thing. Why would this be?
5. Phone features always seems to work fine!
6. Phone will play music when it connects but over a period of time it will not display what is being played or anything. You have to look at the phone for the song title.
It is a brand new truck and part of the reason I got it was for the bluetooth so TOYOTA needs to fix.

I also have had issues for probably at least a year now. It's frustrating for sure.

My BT always connects for everything but Pandora radio. The radio is all over the place. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesnt. Some times it keeps playing through the phone speaker after I turn off the car. Sometimes it even plays two different songs at the same time over top of each other.
The first thing I noticed is that it almost never works with power saving mode turned on. Otherwise it's just hit and miss.
Amazon streaming musing on bluetooth player mode works pretty much universally. But it's frustrating for sure because Amazon streaming music needs to be running in the background before it'll auto start playing musing when you get in. Otherwise you'll have to play with the phone to start it.

I found that uninstalling entune fixed that behavior on my s7 and previous phone. I didn't find much value in it.
