Angle of winch mount

I thought I read on here that mounting a winch with a downward angle, like the C4 fab winch mount hybrid bumper, is bad.

Can anyone speak to that ?

The winch doesn't really care what angle it's mounted at. If and when you need to use the winch, it's most likely not going to be a flat parking lot.

The angle of the pulls will come into play, but that is what the fairlead is for. And when you're stuck you're stuck, so it's not much of a concern. Better to have a winch with a poor angle then no winch at all.

Most winches will have something in their specifications for whether they are capable of a vertical or horizontal (flat) mount. On many it may have something to do with whether the clutch housing and handle can be "clocked" or not for ease of access.
