!Angry at 4Wheelin 4Runner!

So I decided to do a little night 4Wheelin on my way home from work (I find it relaxing and diverting, eases the nerves, some folks don't understand!). So I've had enough after about 45 min and am heading out when I see this truck possibly a Tundra 2009ish barreling down on me. Fortunately he was not a cop nor was he able to follow the obstacles i just went through. I decided to get the heck out of there in case they were drunk or bullies. Well once I got on the road I looked over at him and he's telling me to get the F*** outa here! Now this fun little obstacle course is not restricted nor are there any signs. There are some neighborhoods bout 1/4 mile to the north and south but nothing near. Have any of you experienced this nonsense? It really got me thinking cause if I would have been by myself and the guy came about 10 min earlier and wanted to rough me up, well I would have had to use my 5cell mag light on him but really is it necessary to be so rude when there are no signs keeping folks out? What are ya'lls thoughts? Has this ever happened to any of you? If so what did you do or what happened? I would like to know so in case it happens again I can be ready...:shrug::50cal:

In most places property owners aren't required to post signs to warn people not to trespass. It sounds like you were trespassing and violating the law. If I were you I would consider myself lucky and stay off other people's property in the future. If that were my property and I caught you tearing it up you would need more than a flashlight to protect yourself.

Do some research to find out if it is privately owned or not. Until then I would just stay away from it. No sense in risking something happening.

Here in Michigan hunting is a huge deal, and as such there are hunting trails all over the place. Most of these places are public, but many are privately owned and you have to be careful. Never know when you are going to spook someone in their deer blind :50cal:

Was the guy alone? Next time, IF you find that the area was public, take a buddy along. You would be amazed on how cowardly some people can be when they are outnumbered.

Guys, guys.. in America, if you were to assualt someone out in the woods just because they were on your property, but they weren't being threatening and they didn't know it was private property because there were no signs posted, you would go to jail for a very very long time. If you killed them you would be charged with murder and possibly executed depending on what state you live in. I'm all for protecting myself and most of the time I bring a S&W 329PD with me when I'm out in the middle of nowhere (mostly for large animals), but this ain't 1870 anymore and you can't just assault someone for unknowingly being on your land. Call the sheriff instead and enjoy watching your children grow up from outside a cell.

LOL thanks all for the tips on 4Wheelin friends to bring along! :uzi:I need to get my concealed license first. Yeah the guy was alone, and judging by his actions I'd say he was under the influence. He was going over washouts and dips that I'd just gone through like they were pot holes, bouncing everywhere the whole time. My guess is he either thought i was dumping trash or up to no good and was putting his neighborhood watch hat on. I'm over it now but probably won't return there until i find out from someone that it's OK. No more solo wheeling for me!

I've carried in the past when I've gone off-roading in more remote areas, its really not a bad idea as you never know what kind of nut job you'll run into. When I go to areas that closer to civilization I generally dont carry.

Just be careful and use good judgement though, the moment you draw a weapon on someone you open yourself up to alot of potential legal problems.

Thats about how i feel. If you go alone be prepared and protect yourself. There are just tooo many crazy people around now. I wouldnt have kept going if that happened. I would have gotten out of the truck. Say WTF to the dude and go from there

I'm Bryan. I live in Grapevine. I have not run into problems like that yet, but it has been a big concern of mine because, as you know there are not very many places around DFW for us to go off roading.

I recently was able to get our 91 T4R running, its our first 4x4 we have ever owned, all though I'm not new to off roading because I grew up in ALASKA, but in Alaska it's a lot easier to go off the road and not piss anyone off or destroy the land, but down here in DFW I am searching for places to go off roading where I can do it responsibly.

If you come across anyplace in our area please let me know, and if i find something I'll pass it on as well.

Glad to see another DFW 4Runner owner.

I am a gun lover in Texas...and a NRA member for years. However, i think that OPEN carry is a bad idea for normal folks. Sure, it looks cool. However, open carry takes away one very important advantage you have over your attacker...element of surprise! If the attacker sees that you carry, then he will take proper precaution to eliminate that advantage. Even though i go to the gun range as much as i can, i am sure that there are other folks who can outshoot me. This is why CONCEAL carry is so effective because the attacker does not know that you are carrying and thus, is not prepared for it. The playing field just tipped in your favor.

Back to topic, i agree with Trailhawk...life is too good to get into these confrontations. My life is much more valuable than some jackass in a pickup truck. Reel in your ego and move on. Hey, the fact that you get to go home safely and see your family is the biggest reward. Remember, pulling a trigger (even when you're right) can be a big headache. Investigations, lawsuits, etc..

I will ONLY use my gun to defend myself and/or my family AFTER exhausting all exit points.

Never had it happen on four wheels, but have dozens of times with the dirtbikes. People would come at us saying to go away when, like you said, we didn't seem to be in the wrong/trespassing/annoying anybody or anything. I guess some people like to think they have secret spots and don't like others at them or something. A few times we were accidentally on property but it's hard to tell sometimes if someone actually owns something, with no signs and nothing around.

Sucks when you're just trying to have fun, blow off steam and stuff like this happens.

If they use this area to dump dirt when working on roads, it may be owned by a construction company which may not like people out there. But if this was the case I would expect to see some signs. Regardless, people these days are just rude jerks. You find them everywhere. I get people yelling stuff at me all the time when I am out running. I mean come on, you are out for a run minding your own business and people feel the need to yell at you. I have even had some F-er in a pickup truck try and run me off the road. Even though I was on the shoulder in the gravel already he felt I should not be there and came within 3 inches of hitting met at 50mph. Bottom line, a lot of people out there just need a good smack. I suggest carrying a hammer. It’s not a weapon so the cops can’t do anything and if someone what’s to get up in your face you can knock them the F out.

Hey bigbsvo!

Thanks for the response I did find one place that's on my way home from work...pretty cool there are lot's of trails and seems to be no concearn to anyone. They are minor but there is one steep decent and climb through the a creek. If anyone has any info on this property let me know but I've stopped by there 3 times on my way home from work with no problems...just did some upgrades so might take it out soon...
