Does anyone know of anyone that has put '99 tall coils in a first gen Tacoma? I know they will work but I wasn't sure if anyone has actually done it and if so what the outcome was. Most Taco guys don't know anything about tall '99 coils so that is why I am asking you guys on here.

Do you have a Taco? They would certainly fit. Im running Taco bilstein 5100s with my 99 coils right now. 1st gen Taco and 3rd gen 4runner front suspension is interchangeable. How they would ride, who knows. I have been doing a ton of research on oem taco and 4runner coils lately, and Im pretty sure the 4runner coils are actually stiffer than the Taco coils. 4runner stock coils being 500lb rate, and Tacos being like 450. At least thats what moogs oe replacement coils for the taco are
I can say this . . . nissanh here on the forum installed a set of Taco TRD coils/shocks from an 02 Tacoma, and he said the ride is far better than 99 coils. I am planning on installing Taco progressive coils on my 4runner as well. So going from Taco suspension to 4runner suspension is going in the wrong direction, unless you are looking for a stiffer ride.

I have asked a very knowledgeable Toyota 4x4 guy this same question before and he wasn't sure of the details as far as amount of lift but he also suspected that late model (01-04 perhaps) 1st gen TRD Tacomas have very similar coils as the '99 4Runner coils.
I am also curious how a quad cab TRD Tacoma coil (heavy Tacoma) compares to the 4Runner '99s and which would yield the most lift on my 1999 extended cab Tacoma.

Yeah, I dont know which would be taller. Im guessing they would be very similar for ride height. From a quick search a 99 sr5 4runner curb weight is 3600lbs, while a 2002 four door Taco 4x4 weighs 3700lbs. Similar weight, and they are basically the same vehicle.
The advantage of the Tacoma suspension is that some of the models (I believe TRDs) came with a progressive coil, whereas every 3rd gen 4runner coil Toyota ever made was constant rate. The issue Im having is finding exactly which Tacoma models came with the progressive coil. Again I think it was the TRD model. nissanh took his off of an 02 TRD model, and bolted them straight into his 3rd gen. He was previously running the 99 coils and said that the Taco setup sits at the same height, but rides much nicer with the progressive coil
