Another Bridgestone Revo 2 Praise.....

I had the Revo 2s put on yesterday and they are great as far as smoothness and quietness in ride. I have not tried them in ice or snow yet but I'm sure they will do fine. The true test was when my wife drove it and could not tell that there were all terrain tires on it - we had street tires on it before.
I went with 265/70/17 as opposed to the factory size of 265/65/17 on my sport wheels. I had to remove the front mud flaps and pull the front inner wheel liners in to avoid rubbing. (J.A. has a very informative and easy direction thread on how to do this-thanks J.A-scroll down hereToyota 4Runner Wheel Spacers) FYI - I also have a Daystar 2.5" lift with Spidertrax wheel spacers.

I had a set of Revo 2s installed a few days ago. Too early to give a full review but highway noise and ride quality are only slightly worse than my Cross Terrains. I also think mileage will be lower. Very limited time on ice and snow so far but early indications seem much better than my Cross Terrains. I also went with the 265/70/17 (blackwalls out!) size and have not experienced any rubbing with my stock Limited suspension. The extra 1/2" clearance is a nice bonus as was the lower price vs. the 265/65/17 size.

I find that tire preferences are very personal. I had two sets (a long story) of Cross Terrains on my 4Runner for 88,000 miles total and I was never happy with them on wet, snow, or ice covered roads - even when new. I would almost rate them as dangerous at times and often felt more confident in the winter with my wife's 2007 Camry riding on Michelin Primacy tires or our 1992 Camry with Michelin Hydroedge. I am usually a Michelin devotee but the Cross Terrains changed my mind with my 4Runner. Yet, when I read reviews of the CTs on this forum, Club Lexus, and Tire Rack - I know that I am squarely in the minority. Most owners seem very happy with this tire. Road noise, ride quality,and tread life were excellent with the Cross Terrains but that was about it. This last set still probably had at least another 15,000+ miles in tread wear left but I didnt want to spend another winter with them.

I also wanted an A/T tire for the limited off-roading I do (over which I ended up with several plugs in my CTs). I narrowed my list to the Revo 2, Firestone Destination AT, Michelin LTX A/T 2, and Goodyear Silent Armor. The Michelins were probably my second choice but it was hard to overlook the "statistical" edge that the Revos have based on reviews in this forum, other forums, and Tire Rack itself (where it is currenty #1 for A/T tires). But like I said, tire choice seems very personal so I will reserve judgment and a ful review of the Revo 2 until I have had an entire winter and summer with these new tires.
