Another Dash Kit Confusion ('03 Non JBL)

Three years have passed from my last stereo werks in the 4R. I have an 03' and don't have my factory radio anymore. I can't tell what model it was, I'm sure its no JBL, just the standard radio/headhunit for an '03. I can only remember "Fujitsu". I used a Metra Kit in my first headunit upgrade.

Now I need to replace it with a single DIN Sony Xplod GT700HD. My problem is a single DIN dash kit, and I don't even know the model of my factory headunit(donated).

I saw a Scosche TA2042B. I am not sure...

Can someone tell me what kit to buy base on the pic? IMO, newer Sony Stereos have same dimension, if you have one, what dash kit did you use?

That scosche should work but don't hold me to it. You really just need a single-din adapter for your 4runner. I've had good luck with Metra, I looked up your specs, 03 4R, non JBL and Metra Online | Metra Part # 99-8206 | Toyota Highland Dash kit is what I found.

I doubt the Scosche TA2042B I saw earlier will work, because I just learned that its for RDS radios in which I don't remember mine have RDS feature.

I can buy kits online for $9.00 plus shipping. But Bestbuy advice me to order kits(one, two or more) from them for $19.99/free shipping and just return the one that won't fit in store. The Metra 99 8206 that you recommend is sold at Bestbuy...so it will be on my order list.

From what I can tell, there are two different dashes put into our 4runners. The basic dash is found in all the 4runners, regardless of JBL and RDS. The second dash type is the one that comes in 4runners equipped with the OEM CD changer.

I have a 03 Limited with JBL, RDS, and OEM Nav. My dash opening is the same as a non-JBL and non-RDS. A friend has a 05 Sport with JBL, RDS, and 6 disk changer. His dash opening is wider than mine by about a 1/2", that's the difference between the two. I've also confirmed with another member who did the swap that the Limited with JBL, RDS, and non-Nav uses the same kit mine uses. This is the basis of my above statement, it's true to the best of my knowledge. However, that really doesn't help you out on the single din's. If you could get a vendor to measure the width of each, you could easily tell the difference.

I believe what you need is the Metra 99-8206. I have heard the Scosche is a better match for our dash, I'm just not sure the correct part number.

I previously believe there are 4 different dashes, in which no pictures can confirm my idea. I'm leaning towards the Metra 99-8206.

Update

So I installed the kit, Metra 99-8206. Its so easy specially if you have standard single DIN aftermarket car stereo.

I recommend this kit to most 4th Gen with basic factory radio who wants to replace the stock with a Single DIN unit.
