Ok,
So I want to confirm I have this right, so some input would be appreciated. Please dont :AK47: me!
I have a 2007 Sport Edition 4wd V6.
Now I believe this all to be correct, but correct me please if I am wrong.
1.) I have the multi-mode 4wd system
2.) There is no automatic 4wd option on this vehicle (like my explorers of past)
3.) If I have the switch in the 2 HI position, it will be in 2wd, (rear wheels) in other words, 4wd does not automatically kick on if needed
4.) The VSC will cut power to the engine if I am in 2HI and the wheels are slipping. There is no way to turn this off
5.) Switching from 2 HI to 4 HI is essentially like activating a full time 4wd or AWD system (like the system in my wifes Volvo XC90.) This allows all 4 wheels to move independently so you can drive in all road conditions and make turns as tight as you want or as quick as you want. The VSC is still on and the engine will still cut power to the wheels to keep them from spinning if they are doing so.
6.) Pushing the switch to the left of the steering column (the one that looks like a drivetrain with the front wheels turned) locks the differential putting it in true, traditional 4wd mode which locks the front axle to the rear. Thus you cannot drive on dry, paved surfaces as it will damage the drivetrain. This will also turn the VSC off.
7.) I can drive around in 4hi all the time (VSC activated and differential unlocked), it will do no damage to the vehicle, (however it will probably burn more gas).
BTW I'm familiar with all things 4 low, like I said I've had explorers but I'm not used to the Toyota 4wd system.
