another fiberglass 4runner ... DONE !

rolled into the shop today ...
/89 "special edition" 4Runner .. for a Major body and paint refurbish ..

Gotta love that thin sheet metal.

If you're going to buy a 4Runner, check out any one from central / west Texas, Arizona, or Southern New Mexico. No snow means no salt, which means a longer life for the body panels.

so a little bit more ..

got the rear door off and stripped .. wow what a job .. it was "toast"

also started pulling the "cosmetics" off the front ..

removed the running boards ..

and fenders

hard top front windows( L trim windows)

and finally the hard top ..

also started to "gut" the interior ..

surface rust on heavy suspension pieces , is acceptable ..

but heres an inside view of the "stock" panels .. with some previous repairs .. some of you guys think ..welding in new steel works !!

WASTE OF MONEY .. like I have been tellin' you guys for years ...

so got the rears cut off ..

and started on the gate skin ..

did some POR 15 work on the truck as well as the gate ...

and "glued"

so late yesterday , I also POR15'd the truck , so all would be dry for todays work ..

ok .. so today fit the fronts ..

and trimmed the door edges ..

and fit the rears .. and gate .

glue tomorrow ...

it's a customers truck , and it's a stock 4runner , and basically staying stock . he uses it for mostly winter driving , but hes also a mountian bike rider , and climber .

powertrain is in great shape , and motor runs like a champ .

por-15 .. in lamans terms .. paints over the rust , and stops it from breathing .

so now with all the panels fitted .. time to make PERMINENT

and while curing ..
and with the inners painted , I was able to seam seal the new parts ..

hood weatherstrip , and clips installed

and hood installed and aligned

door installed , and aligned

Slacker, that is the coolest set of "how-to" photos I have ever seen. Like Hayn4R, I was wondering what the purpose of it was.<br>
Another question, how many miles? I have an 89 that I consider at the end of its life, 248K, with quite a bit of body decay.<br>
What about the rust on the leaf springs, underchassis? And did you make the quarter panels?
