Another Gas Cap Question

Hey all, so I think I was having an issue with the infamous gas cap. The truck threw a code and I cleared it with my scanner. The gas cap seemed very loose. It would click tightening it, but it didn't have any resistance removing it. I replaced it with a generic one from autozone, and it seems slightly tighter, but still feels kinda loose, at least more loose than my other vehicles. Also, there's no "whooshing" vacuum sound when I loosen it. Haven't had the code pop back up yet, but it only came on once with the old cap.
How tight should the cap be?

Not sure if normal, but that is how mine is. I sometimes get the three lights if it gets below 1/4 tank. Tighten it up and they go off after a bit.

I got a junk aftermarket gas cap a couple years ago, you could tell the quality was not there just by holding it and screwing it on and off. Was the last one the Napa store had that evening. It's failure mode after a few months was no more overrunning clicky when tightening it. And whatever magic it did to keep the CEL off went away too.

Replaced it with a Stant (I think) aftermarket unit and it is first rate quality, same (maybe identical to) Toyota brand. There's some high tech stuff going on in those things.

Thanks yeah my lights only came on once. I could feel the spring on the old cap, but after the light spring tension, the cap came off really easily. But like I said the new one is still more loose than any other gas cap I've dealt with. It's still running fine and getting normal gas mileage I assume. I'm OCD and these little things bug me forever

How cheap are these aftermarket caps because I only paid $16 from Toyota Dealer. And it did solve the problem of the codes and CEL light.

I think mine was like $14... Whopping $2 savings! Thanks for the tip. I was thinking about picking up a few oil filters at the dealer anyway.
