Hey guys...first post here! Been reading here for a couple months just to kind of see what's going on. I have owned a Toyota before, a 2000 Tundra which I loved. I sold it for a gas friendly car as I got moved to an office position. Well...here I am almost a year later and I'm back in the field and I need an SUV. Not to mention....hauling a Golden dog in a Jetta or GTI just isn't cutting it. Anyway...shopped a couple dealers here in NorCal and found the car truck I want:

Salsa Red 08 SR5 V6 4x4 They offered me this and I want to see if you think this is a good deal or if I should continue to shop around or just wait till the 09's hit and try and pick up a Trail Edition(should they even make those in red???)

Invoice - $27,046
Options-
FE- 50 State Emissions - $0
QT-SR5 Extra Value Package- $367
RF-Rear Spoiler-$160
RL-DRL's-$32
TO-Tow Hitch-$344
Conv. Package-$194(only had the exhaust tip and running boards, where the package is supposed to be those and front skid plate and spare tire lock...but is also $717 with those)
CF-Floor mats-$126 (????....keep those and give me monster mats!!!)

Fees:
FIE(Factory Installed Equipment)-$1223
TDA-Advertising-$523
Fuel-$10
Handling-$685
Extra Value Credit - <$1071>

Total- $29,639

And I can get the .9 Financing. Now...Should I argue on the FIE and TDA? That sounds crazy to pay. And the $10 fuel? Uh, ok. I can see the handling fee of $685.

They also said they would give me invoice on parts so I could change out the running boards to tube/round style and so I could get the Urban Edition steering wheel.

I"m specific on the color I want as it has to be Salsa Red, gray or tan interior, and needs to be a V6 with 4x4. Thoughts?

Wait till 09 and pick up a Trail Edition in Red? Thanks

Look forward to posting more on here! The OME setup looks GREAT on the Runners so I'm sure that will be a future mod!

That sounds like a very fair deal. I think it's highly unlikely that the TT version will be discounted for a very long time if ever.

As far as offroading goes the addition of the VSC off switch on the '08 gives you an incredibly flexible, capable vehicle. A locker is great. Unless you're hardcore the very capable ATRAC will get you where you want to go in fine style.

Good luck:bigok:

Don't work with the dealer's invoice. I don't even understand what it's saying - FIE minus Extra Value?!? Huh? Find out what KBB or Edmunds says is invoice and work with that number. The $685 is the destination charge, and that is something you should expect to pay and include in the invoice price. With the market the way it is right now, you should be able to get below invoice rather easily.

Do the math and make sure that 0.9% financing is really a better deal than the cash rebate that's being offered in your area. Even if you go with the special finance rate instead of cash, I would think you could easily get $1000 below invoice right now. Of course, cash back will make your up-front cost even lower than that.

Considering all of the above, go back to that dealer and offer to pay a certain number. Don't use the word "invoice" again - only talk about a dollar amount.

Thanks toto...yeah, that's what I was thinking...walk in...and tell them....I want to walk out the door paying $XX,XXX with my trade in (as I know I won't get all that much...while the car itself is in great shape it's due for some $$$$ maintenance). Take it or leave it. Unfortunately due to the color combo I want their aren't many available. Of course their were PLENTY of black and silver ones available but I don't want those colors. I agree, that I should be able to get under invoice. But they sure didn't seem to want to budge.

And to add...I have NO f-ing clue what that "extra value credit" is? And to charge on Factory Installed Options??? Sounds like I had negotiated them down so low they were trying to make their $$$ back. Handling, tax, and reg is all they are getting out of me.
