Well for me anyway. I am sure this individual is on this site and others. I found a maplight mod that helped me immensely. Not sure whose site it is but man ther is some great instruction in there. Ever have someone tell you about a Mod and then just know your going to need some pictures or a diagram? This guy has done a fantastic job of doing both.

This is a mod I am about to do. i cannot stand it that the Map lights up front do not come on when I unlock the truck at night. This Mod helps to correct that with only a small investment of time and money.

If this your site you have done a great job....

Andy

I hear you, I loved San Diego as well but I could not handle the State, Stationed there for 18 years, VF2, Ranger (CV-61) Kitty Hawk (CV-63) USS Essex (LHD-2) various shore billets....

JA is who? (Remember I am new) I found his site quite by accident but GREAT detail!

Thanks for the comps! If anything is unclear let me know. The maplight mod is great, adds lots of useful light up front when entering the vehicle at night, especially with LEDs in place of the factory bulbs.

Thanks for all the detail. I have been combing through it meticulously. Nice solution to an irritating problem.

Much appreciated!

JA Quick question, The 3 LED replacement that you recommended on your page( 194_3HP_W )(http://www.v-leds.com/Interior-LED/DomeMap-LED/White-LED/V-LEDS-HID-WHITE-3-M-p5168710.html ) is Sold out. and they do not appear to be selling those any more. Which of these would you recommend as the replacements?

Another Question, I noted that the Parking/front side marker (168 5w - Wedge base (amber)) are also 168's Since these are also used as my parking lights Which of these Amber LED's would be best in your opinion? http://www.v-leds.com/194-168-158-LED/Amber-LED/sc122256-1-2/

Would you recommend these as the Turn signal LEDs? http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/...ED/V-LEDS-AMBER-48-SMT-TURN-p6302213-1-2.html
Thanks Andy

If they didnt have the 1.5W 194 maplights I would have went with the 2watters that I used in the doors, 194_4_HP_W as the next choice for hig power down firing only bulbs are the liscence plate 0.75watt ones.

As far as the amber bulbs go, I havent looked into those in detail yet. I would factor in what year your rig is and weather it has DRL's or not, as the refreshed 4th Gens have different style lighting. I would look into the housing to see if a radial firing rather than front only firing bulb would be a better choice, etc.

I'm looking to do the maplight mod and I have a question...is there a way to wire the map lights to the switch on the center mounted light? If that is possible it would allow you to make the mod swithable without installing a new switch. Just a thought I had when reviewing you write-up. Thanks.

Definetly you can do that.

My switch is used primarily to shut down the maplight mod.

If you were to wire it your way (to the dome light switch) then everytime you turn on the dome light, the map lights will come on as well...NOT what i wanted. I want the ability to turn on the dome for my rear passengers, while having the maps off as I dont want those in my face while driving, only while entering. At the same time I want a switch to turn off the maps (when the doors are open) for such times as when I am working on the rig for extended periods and want the maps off / doors open.

That is a very good point, I hadn't thought about rear passengers turning on their dome light and the map lights turning on simultaneously. Definately could be a problem.

heres a couple more places for xtra lights, theyre really much brighter than camera makes them seem.
