Another knock sensor issue and question

So both bank 1 and bank 2 have codes now on the 3.4 v6, i found a 4runner at the junk yard and pulled the harness and sensors out, here comes the weird question, can i wire these up outside the engine and ground the bottom of the sensor to a ground or not even possible...i would rather have the sensors away from the engine and never see that darn light on again, motor is fine, no pings or knocks..

External is possible. A lot of guys running S/C have done it. Not sure what is involved but I think it requires some GM style sensors. Search around on customtacos.com
