Another Leak Thread

Hello

Did a search and couldn't find a problem quite like mine...

Basically I get little droplets of water running down the windshield, it looks like it is coming from the "seam" between where the headliner meets the windshield (where the sun visor is). Shining a light on the headliner shows no wet spots.

On top of that, my drivers' side carpet is wet. I've only had my truck for a month or so and it always had this odd "mildew" smell, I figured it was just because the previous owner had dogs and it needed airing out.

It's wet right under the footrest, where my foot would normally be, and in the "rear" part of the front carpet, just in front of the "hump" where the drivers' seat is bolted to.

My drivers' door seal is slowly coming apart.. unfortunately but spraying water at it with a hose didn't show any leaks. I also sprayed the sunroof drain holes with compressed air from a can (maybe I need a stronger air source?) and siliconed the top of the windshield where it meets the roof on the outside. Still leaks. Any tips?

I also don't have any aftermarket wiring, so all the grommets in the engine bay are untouched and I already inspected them as well. I'm really stumped as to what the leak might be and it's driving me up the wall!

Do you have a sunroof? Check the drain weeps if you do. If they are clogged you might get water down one of the side posts.

I had the same issue, it was caused by the seal of my sunroof. I cleaned it all real well with hot soapy water, then took a shopvac to the drains of it in case there was a blockage. I'm pretty sure that fixed the leak issue.
Later that week (before it rained again) I took off the roof rack to repaint it. When I took off the rails I resealed them (the mount bolts) as I remounted them. I could see where this could also be a cause for a leak.
Mine is water tight now, pretty sure it was the sunroof, but could have been the roof rack mounts.

Update: It started raining today and I opened my drivers door to the typical small spot of water (about a fist-size) on the carpet.

I went to Canadian Tire and bought some "weed wacker wire" and ran it through the drain, it went about 4-5 feet before it stopped. As I was doing this I saw a fair amount of water in a puddle on the floor. I poured some water into the drain hole and it immediately started leaking from the drain hole onto the floor outside.

I also inspected the firewall on the interior side, didn't see any telltale signs of water droplets and such so it is most likely the sunroof drain.

Hopefully it is fixed, I'll clean the sunroof and seals real well with some hot water and soap once it starts to clear up. Thanks for the help!

UPDATE: That didn't fix it. Parked on a level surface for about 5-6 hours at the library working on papers.... came back to a wet headliner just above the driver and a wet carpet. My guess is that the moisture seeps down the a-pillar and into the carpet.

But I did fix it. While taking a good look at my sunroof and door seals, I noticed that the little "end cap" on my factory roof rack (the front left one) was loose. Loose, as in I was able to wiggle it about 3/8 of an inch in either direction. I pulled out a T20 socket and tightened the bolt, it went about 6 turns before "tight enough" and the end cap was tight to the body. I then loosened it and added a dab of silicone right under it as well as to where the bolt penetrated the metal.

Been monitoring it for the past day while it was pissing out, truck is always parked outside... doesn't look like the leak is getting worse. Going to dry out the truck in the next week (damn Vancouver week-long rains) and see if I fixed it. Thanks!
