Another lift question

So I have been searching threads here and on other forums but I'm a bit confused. So the first question- can I get slightly taller tires without rubbing (stock height)? I have 265-65-17s now.

Here is what I would like next- a 2"-3" lift for offroad clearance. Leveling the vehicle is not a big concern. I initially thought about the 3" OME kit and am still considering it. How do you guys like that over stock? Will it allow me to go with slightly taller tires without rubbing? Will a 3" lift mess with my CV boots and all that?

I'm pretty unfamiliar with lifts and suspension kits so any other options are welcome. I have read a lot about the FJ springs but am admittedly still confused as to how much lift they provide and if I need new shocks/struts to prevent top-out.

My main things are a little more clearance and reliability. It will still be a vehicle for long trips so I can't make it too rough or mess up the angles of the CV boots too much. Thanks!

Most 265/70/17 tires will fit at stock height. Mud tires and the BFG A/T may cause issues. I'm not much help when it comes to the larger lifts, so I'll leave that for someone else to answer. 3" is about the max you can go on the 4runner without major modifications, but at 3" you should be fine. FJ springs improve the ride, I'm super happy with them, but if you're looking at something like the OME setup, FJ springs probably won't be needed. How much lift you get all depends on how worn you stock springs are. I got .5" in the front, and mine had 135k miles on it. Most seem to get .5-.75" front, and .25-.5" rear. If for some reason you're stock springs had more sag, you'd get more lift, but it should be under an inch front/rear.

bud, just do what i did.

get the bilstein 5100 kit that'll lift about 2.5". get the OME rears. put on some 32" BFG ATs. a 3" lift doesn't mess with the angles enough to get worried about the boots but understand even at stock height the CV boots leak over time. it is truly a maintenance item. nothing lasts forever on a car remember that.

rides better than stock, looks good, and is super super high quality stuff good for the urban bruiser style 4runner. do a search on my posts.

Thanks, guys! THEROK, I'll look at your posts. That sounds perfect what what I need- a bit more clearance for those backcountry roads in the Rockies and San Juans, and the milder Utah trails as well.
