Hey guys!
I've been lurking around here researching/reading while I hunted for my 1st 4Runner, so I thought I'd introduce myself and my truck now that my search has ended.
First off, here's my '99 4Runner Limited, Desert Dune/Silver Cladding, Auto, 4X4, Rear Locker, Tow Pkg, yada yada yada. She was a 1 owner truck, had the timing belt done at 93k, just turned 170k this morning and is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon! Of course I'm going to have to fix the burnt out climate control bulbs and either do the Taco antenna retrofit or replace the telescoping unit... but that's the fun part (sorry if the pics are a bit dark, I snapped them after work this evening)
I found the truck in NC, and drove up with a friend of mine Friday night to "look at it" (with cash in hand, of course). It was cleaner than I imagined, so I made the ~250mi. back home with no concerns.
As I found out during my short road trip, the B.S. 'Pathfinder' (Discount Tire Co's brand) tires do have some cupping (one worse than the others) which to me is indicative of a lack of rotation and a 'less than perfect' alignment. Needless to say, I'll be buying her some new tires soon and I'm looking to make the small bump-up to 265/75/16's to fill out that '99 height :bigok:
I've heard some good things about the Nitto TerraGrapplers, but I really don't want excessive tire noise being that my commute is about to grow exponentially in the next 4 months. Tire suggestions/experience would be appreciated!
As for myself, not to sound like a cheesy dating ad but I'm 26 and I come from more of a road racing background. (The last 6 cars I've owned have been BMW's). I'm pretty mechanically inclined, I work in parts for BMW, and still own an S52 swapped e30. I'm also very active on several of the BMW forums (BF.C OT FTW?) along with the BMWCCA (Car Club of America), so the whole owner's community/forum thing is nothing new to me... it's actually one of the things that enticed me when it came to the 4Runners!
Anyways, I'm looking forward to enjoying my new DD!!
