Joined the forum about a week ago and Ive been lurking ever since and replying to posts where I can. But now I can finally do a proper intro.
My name is Trevor and last week the wife and I decided that we were sick of her old 2007 silverado classic breaking something new on basically a weekly basis.
I don't want to sound too harsh on the Chevy because it did its job well for the last 10 years and 232k miles, but it just didnt fit our needs anymore.
With our 7 year old it was a tight fit in the regular cab. Our other vehicle is much newer than the Chevy was and fit us fine, but has racked up 40k in just a year and a half and it just isnt the best for icy roads (they don't clear them well here in Flagstaff so we get large icebergs in the roadway) and the muddy roads going to her parents place.
That made it really difficult for me to justify fixing the Chevy despite doing the labor myself. In the past 2 months it had racked up the following repairs needed:
Both cats replaced
Coolant temp sensor
Steering rack
Front and rear brakes needing entire overhaul
Entire front suspension overhaul
Oil leaks from oil pan and timing cover
Cooling system needed complete overhaul to be deemed reliable
Climate control switch replaced
And the battery quit the day we traded it in.
Granted a lot of that was just normal wear and tear, it was just impossible to jusyify those costs for it.
So we wound up buying a certified used 2016 4Runner sr5 with 35k miles on it. Its bittersweet for my wife because the Chevy had a sentimental value for her as the first new vehicle she ever bought, but after taking the 4Runner on a sandy cow trail to her grandpa's house for Easter she seems to have gotten happier about it. She was actually having fun doing it and was impressed with how it handled.
