hi everyone. i finally decided to register instead of just reading all the informative posts by other members. i bought my Black '04 V6 Ltd 4x4 about 5 months ago and found this forum shortly afterwards (kinda wish i knew about t4r.org before my purchase to avoid getting my w/Dunflops)

the t4r rocks! thanx to this forum, i'll be modding my rig in the near future (i.e.- lift kits, larger tires, etc), things which i would've never consider doing until i saw pics of some of the awesome rigs on this forum. honestly, when i first decided to buy the t4r, i never thought that i would ever lift it, upsize the tires, or go offroading, but thanx to the cool pics/videos, i found a new hobby i was interested in.

just one question to get started: do solid colored paint (i.e- Black & other non-metallic paint) have a clear coat and does that affect the durability of the paint? the reason being is that i noticed many small (ball point pen tip sized) nicks/chips in the front of my 4runner such as below the front headlamps and on other parts of the hood. there's a larger sized chip (about the size of an eraser tip) that's obvious that a rock hit it pretty hard, but all the other smaller one, i'm not so sure. i do alot of highway driving and sometimes, i just can't avoid driving behind some damn dirt hauling trucks on the I-15. i always get into another lane and pass up the truck asap, but sometimes i get stuck behind a bunch of slow cars. i've never had a Black vehicle before, so i don't know how susceptible it is to rock chips. thanx in adv for any replies...

btw, i'm a car/truck nut. i wash/wax my own vehicle (don't trust car washes), change my oil every 6K-7K w/Mobil 1. and notice every hiccup or irregularity on my t4r. there will be more posts to come.....

I think all 4Rs have a clear coat. If you are concerned about chips, maybe look at getting 3M clear cover which you can cut for the front of your 4R. I dont use it, but it might prevent further paint chips. SOme of the other guys can chip in.

BTW enjoy your 4R!!! Let us know when you plan to start lfiting, etc. Do you have XREAS??

welcome to the forums!!

i agree with bulldog's suggestion as well ...

and pretty soon, people are going to chime in here to tell you to post pics of your truck ... so, i'll go ahead and start:

we'd love to see some pictures of your new 4runner!!!
