Another question on spacers....

If I am going to be 100% on road all the time, would 3"/2" spacers mounted on top of the strut pose too much risk? Installing a true lift suspension is not an option for me. I have read a ton of posts on the two different spacer types. I know the preloaded method is preferred, but I have to wonder if the easier method of installing the spacer on top is OK it'd you only stay on the road.

"risk" as in them falling apart and your vehicle failing? or as in potentially damaging your suspension components? If installed properly, I think it should be pretty stout (as long as you go with a quality setup up like Toytec or Daystar, etc.); but the higher up you go with top out spacers, the closer you get to potentially damaging your shocks from bottoming out and/or topping out the pistons in the shocks (ie. over compression or over extension of the shock bodies).

Here's a nice video that explains the issues you might experience if you get too greedy with the lifting via spacers:

If I was on a budget and looking to lift, I would do no less than a set of 5100s all around; setting the front perches as high up as you want to go, and throwing on a spring spacer out back to get to the height you are looking for. This way you don't run the risk of any damage to the factory shocks (since the 5100s are designed to handle the extra lift); and you end up with a nice handling ride to boot :)

If you can swing it, do the Bilsteins all the way around and the daystars in the rear. If not, do what thebwlife said. The reason I say get the Bilstiens is because the truck will drive better and, in my opinion, be much safer than stock in regards to handling and road manner all with the benefits of the added clearance and better looking stance.

I just did the Bilsteins all the way around and the rear spacers:
