2009 4runner with JBL including Nav.
Radio has Nav, Bluetooth for phone, steering wheel buttons for volume, phone, etc., 4CD changer, rear camera.
Issue ... when playing any sound (radio, Aux, or CD) sound will blink on and off... sounds like loose wire.... when hit a bump, it will go off... or on (sound only).... Sometimes it will stay off for hours... sometimes very intermittent. When sound goes off all volume controls stop working... if in radio mode..radio is still receiving, as it shows song names, etc... just no sound, and volume control on steering wheel will not work, nor volume button on radio. Sounds just like a loose wire...pulled head, checked wires... tried to trace to SubWoofer in rear, beating... slamming, cant find loose connection or short...
When sound is not working... Nav, rear camera, phone... all buttons and functions work... with will change channel, search for channels and find them,change CD track, etc... just no sound, no volume control...
Went to dealer. They say (without much diagnosis (time wise))... the tuner on the control head is bad. I disagree... tuner is picking up the channel... but maybe they had some instrument that told them something... at any rate they wanted $2,800 to install new control head...
Several questions for you experts.... any suggestions as to what the problem actually is? What options do I have.... can I replace the control head with an aftermarket and all the functions work (bluetooth, camera, nav.... don't care about cd but would like ipod connection....
Is this something I can do? Will there be a lot of splicing, or is anything plug and play?
