Another Scion HU ?

I want to do this mod. Where can I find which one's will fit my 06 sport ? model #'s , pic's ect...I've searched and it's all kind of confusing to me . I might want to add the XM tuner kit to it later ( factory tuner kit).

I really dont care about 1 or 6 disk I guess and will probably buy a new one from the dealership if it's cheap enough or I'll go ebay.

I will be replacing the 6 disc. "DJ" code 6 speaker system.

I want it to work with my steering wheel control's ( which I've read it will) Will any 06 Scion HU work in my 06 4R ?

Can you get the Scion logo off of it ?

What about the outlet plug in the center console , what's that for ( ipod ) ? will it still work w/scion head unit ?

All Scion H/Us will fit BUT you should get the 2006 model T-1806 and it will work with steering whell controls and sat radio.

I have seen them on EBay for as little as $85 and up to $285. Search carefully as they will be listed in a lot of weird ways. A dealer gets $400 to $600

Getting the logo off messes up the plastic.

All Scion 2006 HUs will fit 4Runners with non-JBL HUs. The Scion 2006 Ipod HU (the one with three knobs) is a little trickier I believe. The others (with a single knob in the middle) are a straight swap and steering controls work as normal. Not sure bou the aux plus in 2006 4runners... I've read it works fine too.

As for the Scion logo, you're better off trying to find something to stick over it. It's painted onto the plastic so anything that takes the paint off will also disfigure the plastic. Another option would be to get some matt-black paint and paint over it. I might give that a try.

3 knob T-1806 head unit is a snap to install and 100% compatible. Here is a picture

Here's a pic of the 1 knob '06 Scion h/u (T1807) in an '05 SR5. This fits perfectly and looks great, very stock in appearance. Trying to remove Scion logo looks like it would do some damage to the plastic. I don't mind the logo, especially since you can program the display to show '4RUNNER' when you start up. One thing to remember is to bend or cut away the small metal plate above the antenna jeck. This will expose a second jack that is not used in the Scion, but is used in the 4Runner.

Falls, the switch was definately worth it for sound quality. The Scion is much better than the stock h/u. Plus the price is right, about $100 inc. shipping off E-Bay. Crankability is not exceptional. I'd guess these are only 20 to 30 watts per ch. I upgraded speakers at the same time & could really benefit from an external amp. Maybe after new tires and shocks... One of the things I really like is the ability to play MP3 or WMA cds. I burned a mix disk of WMA files and was able to put over 100 songs on it. Just put that on, hit random play and your good for almost 7 hrs. To me that beats a 6-disk changer all hollow.

I looked at both unit's at the dealer 1806/1807. I don't really care about ipod or mp3 stuff. Both units claim 160 watts.

I could find info on either weather they are 6 disk or single disk.

Both unit's have a am/sat. button on them so are compatable with XM.

I thought the crankability would be better. I hate the fact I have to turn the knob about 20 time's for increased/deceased volume.

dealer want 260 for the 3 knob unit I did't price the single knod unit yet.

So if the unit does not increase volume what the point of switching to it ?? I find it hard to beleive my 6 disk / 6 speaker "DJ" premium unit has 160 watts to it. If it has 160 watts total what would that be per channel ?

I think that's 160 / 4 peak, not rms. This plays loud enough, but doesn't really have the extra grunt the MB Quart spkrs could use. As far as sound quality & features the Scion is way, way better than the stock unit.

Right now I have the P1802 unit , does anyone have any spec's or know where I can find spec's on this unit so I can compare the 2 as far as watts go.

Chalk , why did you pick the T1807 over the T1806 ?

Falls, To be honest I didn't know much about the two units. I saw the T1807 on e-bay. I knew it was an '06 single play, would paly wma files and had a 6-changer plug that I needed for a PIE adapter so I jumped on it. I thought the 1806 was the 6 disk player. No regrets, except I wish I had the radio controls on my steering wheel. Also, I never tried this with the stock spkrs, it may have more than enuf hoops for those. But the MB Quart 2-ways could stand a little more umph.

Anyone try and hook up the i-pod connecter? I wanted to buy one for that reason and the wattage of the unit. Thanks in advance.
