Another silencer on the exhaust?

I read in a thread from way back when on page 12 or 13 that there is an exhaust silencer. Is this true for 1998 models? I have been debating getting an exhaust upgrade, that way I could have the custom pipe for my ISR mod made at a shop, but I know that the money compared to the HP gain is minimal. I mainly want to do it so I can have a nice commanding exhaust note that gets attention! Maybe if I can just bypass the silencer on the exhaust it would be alot cheaper. Any thoughts?

You want just the sound then just get a nice Magnaflow muffler and have it installed with a custom exit pipe and it shouldn't cost more than little over $100.
A bypass in the stock exhaust would be obnoxious loud and get tiring after a while.

it wouldn't bypass the muffler, just the "exhaust silencer", if it does exist. Maybe it was just someone who didn't know what they were talking about, because now that I think about it, the muffler would be the silencer...:bash:

Did you mean resonator? On the 4th gens, the actual muffler is underneath the middle of the truck. Then near where the pipe exits the rear, there is a big bulge that may resemble a muffler, but it is actually a resonator. Removing the resonator will give you a bit more sound, but no real performance gains. I'm not sure if the 3rd gens have a similar setup.
