Well.. I got scammed when I paid $1900 for my 1992 4Runner SR5 4X4 I just got. (found out the est value is only $900 for one in average condition with 180000 miles on it) It looked okay and my friend with me thought it was good.. However.. the nightmare begins....
It would not pass smog.. All sorts of air intake mods some previous owner did before it got to CA. Have to replace pretty much everything from the fuel injector on down to the vent the air comes into (all those hoses and such as pricey)... Had to replace oxygen sensor. Oil didn't look like it had been changed in ages. Prob was lucky to get it home without seizing the engine.
Little business card holder door won't stay shut. Cut my head on it getting in.. Can't find that part to replace the broken door and it hurts hitting my head on it. Ouch! Might have to duct tape it closed for now.
A/C blows.. but only hot air....
Finding parts was not as easy as just going to the junkyard.. having trouble finding a junkyard WITH a 1992 4Runner.
Good points: All the electric windows, but the passenger side front one work. Moonroof works. Tires good, rims good, body.. a little dented up, some bondo... but not too bad. Looks okay from a distance. Has good hitch for towing, though I doubt I will tow a lot with it. Seats seem comfy enough for long drives. Engine and trans 'seems' okay, in that it runs and goes through gears... Stereo works even though antenna is broken off.
Hope I can get this thing fixxed up now that I committed to the long hard trail of rehabbing it. Being as its been abused and apparently through an impound action at least once, it might take some TLC to get it back again.
