Another tail light thread..(i found led's)

is there any difference between 00' and 01-02 tails???
the reason i ask is this:

I want these, they are the best looking aftermarket tails imo.

at first glance noticed no difference from that and the factory taillights. if i was gonna spend the money on new taillights i'd at least get something w/ noticeable difference.
 
Once they light up then you see the big diff and if they don't cost and arm and a leg then go with them.
 
visually they are the "crystal" version of the 3rd gen tails meaning they're clearer. Mechanically there is a slight difference with the turn signal bulbs that plug in that you will have to modify.

Yes, there is a difference between the '00s and '01-'02s tails, but it's cosmetics only. They still mount the same. I've seen quite a few guys upgrade their tail lights on their '99 and '00 4Runners with the '01 -'02 tails for an updated appearance.


Personally, I'd like to see these lights you found mounted on a 3rd gen before I give my vote.

Would also like to seem how the LEDs look from the rear when they are in use.

Nice find either way though. :)

No, thats not true, did you not read my post?:confused: The turn signal bulb harness is different, youll have to buy one from the dealer or mod it yourself(lee knows how)

I might suggest converting the blinkers and reverse lamps to LED as well, if you have the means/ability to fab something up. Might as well do the whole deal.
 
HOLY SHIT!!! 3rd Gen LED tail lights??? No way.. these are like the 06-08 4Runner tail lights... man where can I get these I'm ordering them ASAP! :bigok:

I wouldn't do that.. LED bulbs are not that bright, although LED lighting looks nicer, it's not always brighter. I'd go with the PIAA superwhite bulbs. But if you really really want some bright Turn signals or backup lights go with the Polarg bulbs with the Hybrid lens.. yeah they are expensive, but they are bright!

My bad! Yeah, I must have skipped right over you post. :D

That's good information. I know a handful of guys that have upgraded their tails on their '00s to the '02 tails and not a one of them mentioned they had to mod the turn signal bulb harness :mad:. I need to go have a talk w/ a few of those guys...

Sorry for the delayed response guys ive been out of town, YES i did find them on ebay as someone else posted, i wasnt sure if someone had mentioned these yet or not, i tried a search and didnt find anything though. as for the guy that thinks they look too much like stock, well thats exactly the point , i was looking for stock type LED tails, sorry but i think the Altezza types are just tacky and should be left on the IS300/Altezza only.

I would also like to see these mounted on a vehicle before i buy a set, as long as they bolt on to the truck without modification i should be fine, ive never had a problem with wiring and one silly connector difference wont hold me back.
