i bought my car used in july at 93,000 miles. took it to a mechanic to get shocks replaced and he says i should also replace my timing belt. there is a sticker in engine that says it was replaced at the end of 2006 at 90,000 miles and he thought that was suspicious because how would the car only have gained 3000 miles in a year and a half? is there really no way to tell if the timing belt has been changed or not? i got a carfax report and there were 82000 miles on it at the end of 2005. it does have a funny history and was salvaged so maybe it was sitting in junkyard for a while? its a 1999. anyways should i just get it replaced to be safe or not worry about it. he quoted me at 700 bucks, is that reasonable? thanks for the help, i dont know jack about cars. But i love my 4runner!
