Another Toytec Lift Question

I've been looking at the 3" Lift w/ front and rear coils. I was thinking of going with 883 and 891....although I don't have any additional weight. I think I would prefer a stiffer ride. Let me know what you think.

My question is.....why doesn't anyone run/offer shock extensions? This may be a stupid question but I could find anything using the search. It's seems like a logical choice if you cannot afford 4 new shocks.

Please let me know.....no bashers please, I'm new :cheers:

It's a '99. I don't do anything crazy off-road. Mostly fire roads and backwoods trails during hunting season. I'd like to do more stuff off-road but just don't know of anything in the area. I plan to run 255/85r16 BFG MT KM2s or Cooper S/Ts in the same size. I really don't want to body lift.

What do you think?

Also, I appreciate you helping me out. Nobody runs shock extensions though?

I have that setup and while I love it for my needs, it would be ridiculous stiff without extra weight. Definitely a BAD choice for a DD unless you plan on getting a bumper/winch, sliders, and skids. Don't know about shock extensions.
 
shock extensions are a wrangler and f-150 series thing and doesn't apply to us here. they are pretty much a crappy way of lengthening the shock or more like relocating it to use a stock shock in a lifter application, i'd just buy longer shocks regardless of the truck i was in.
 
I know you said you didn't want any body lift, but if you want to run bigger tires it is actually really easy to do! I did a 1" in my driveway with a hi-lift jack in about 4 hours. You may think about it in the future!
 
A guy at my work has an old 2" body lift that he'll give me....it's not specifically for a 4runner. It's just the spacers but I figured there's probably not much of a difference in terms of that portion of the body lift (it's a Performance Products kit). I'd just need to order the front bumper brackets and and the steering shaft extender. I really want to run 255/85s but as you can tell....I'm on a budget. The shocks/springs on my '99 4runner don't seem to be sagging...the truck actually stands pretty tall as it is. I don't want my truck to look hookboogie but I can't spend a lot either.

Don't forget about the 10 longer bolts you'll need too.
 
By time I buy everything to make this body kit work, I could've just bought a Budget Boost from Toytec....like the front spacers and rear spacers/coils. I didn't think a body lift would be so difficult. Seems like a lot less work to just install some new spacers. Is it?

I think you should ditch the body lift idea and go with a sus lift. Even the cheap one you are talking about is a lot better than a 2" body lift IMO. I hate BLs and only run one because I keep adding more weight and like to run 12" wide tires during the spring/summer and the BL helps with clearance. Other than for that, I would not have a BL. My $.02. The sus. lift isn't really any harder to install IMO, you'll just need to get an alignment afterward whereas a BL you don't.
 
I was suggesting a body lift in conjunction with a suspention lift, just to give yourself some options when it comes to tires.

Where are you guys finding the best prices for tires? I'm looking around online and there are awesome prices but what will the local tire shop charge to mount, balance and align?

about $100-200 otd depending

it's usually better to print the page out take it down there ask to speak to a manager and get them to price match, that way you save on shipping and the money from shipping can be spent on mount and balance, ect
