As - far as the hatred toward the TRD Pro. I've been on this site for only a few days, but there is definitely something to it. I dont know why.

I'll 'splain it to you. As I said earlier, it's not the TRDP - it's cool. It's SOME of the owners. They just come on with this attitude. They get called for it, and then just double down.

Because some of us expected Toyota to step up and make an awesome trail/off road vehicle out of it instead of an appearance package while deleting KDSS.

Also I feel like they neglected/lost an opportunity to make a crazier version of the Trail edition and instead just put on a mild lift on a KDSS-less base Trail.

So many of us were left scratching our heads as to WTF Toyota was thinking.

At least one member has already beat the shit of his TRDPROWTFBBQ and I applaud him.

I'm just curious, and I'm not just string shite up, what were you hoping for out of the Pro?

I honestly didn't have much hope because they never really do much except putting their stickers and logos on stuff, but just once would like to be pleasantly surprised.

My take? It's because many of the new owners came on here with a (perceived) attitude - and promptly got called out for it. Some animus remains...

It's just another 4R...... a cleverly designed one IMO. Minimum investment, maximum return. Those expecting a killer off-roader are dreaming. For a tiny fraction of sales? Seriously not happening.

LOL. Just goes to show that there is always a critic and you can never satisfy everyone no matter how hard you try. If you want that "awesome off-road vehicle" that Toyota sells, buy a Land Cruiser. People like you don't understand that Toyota has to offer off-road packages that are within a certain cost range to be feasible, marketable, and profitable. You would be "over building the neighborhood" to do much more than Toyota did to 4runner with the TRD Pro package. Toyota saves the very costly packages for Land Cruisers and maybe the Lexus brand.

Also, the off-road packages that Toyota offers must have somewhat good street manners, so all of you guys hoping for a factory 4runner with 38's are dreaming.

The TRD Pro is not just stickers and badges. The engineered shocks/springs package is top notch for the cost they are charging the customer. What other manufacturer sells a better engineered package at this price range?

As far as the KDSS, there is probably a good reason Toyota did not include it. I don't know how important it is anyway since Jeep or nobody else uses it. It seems more like just another approach to off-road engineering and not the "end all" or "have to have" item to be off-road capable.

I own a 2014 Trail (non-KDSS) by the way.

You're kidding right? They charge something like $4k to $5k more for the TRD Pro and all you get is a one inch lift, bilstein reservoir shocks, a quasi satoshi grill and a thicker aluminum skidplate. Oh yeah, floor mats too. Yes, the factory warranty peace of mind is nice, but not THAT nice. Also, tons of members on here have lifts and no drivetrain issues. Keep the lift to 3 inches or less, and you'll be fine and then you don't have to worry about drivetrain failures.

I don't think anyone was expecting a solid axle 4Runner on 38s. But maybe more than a one inch lift, plus a rear lift so you don't have a nose high stance, a front e locker and some proper mud terrains like Rubicons have would have been nice. If it's called a TRD Pro and they're marketing it to off roaders I don't think it needs to have good road manners. But you know what would have given it good road manners?...KDSS.

Don't know how many ways it can be explained. It's NOT the truck but the owners. Almost all are very new members here, many appear to be young and are way over sensitive with a feeling of entitlement.

I don't think it's an accident that it's the same generation who got trophies just for showing up to the game and the universe was so proud of you for graduating kindergarten.

Here's a little tidbit mommy neglected to tell you. You are really not that special and the sun does not raise every morning just as a celebration of your awesomeness. Sorry.

Everyone has their own idea of cost/benefit and whether something is worth the cost. Some folks like you will say it is not worth the extra cost and others think it is a value. For example, I personally don't think the limited is worth the extra value, but for others it is well worth it.

And it is not just a 1" lift with some off the shelf shocks as you try to short change it. It is an "engineered package" that includes special springs and the special shocks, along with the wheels and tires, skid plate, etc.

I also think your idea of who it is marketed to versus Toyota's idea is vastly different. It seems to be marketed to the "casual" off-roader who also wants decent on-road manners--not the hard core off-roader as you seem to think.

After reading all the haters' comments, I think I sense a lot of butt hurt folks who no longer have the top dog 4runner package, probably people who spent all the money on the Trail KDSS and now are one-upped with this new package. I have a 2014 Trail (non-KDSS) and I admire the new package, but I am not butt hurt about it. For all you haters, don't be jealous. It's an ugly character flaw.

I have owned more then my fair share of automobiles and TRD Pro is my first ever brand new Toyota. It is definitely a very capable package. Some might think its just a bunch of stickers or branding, but it actually is very capable, and I would say it closely matches the off-road capabilities of a Jeep Rubicon in stock form and trounces the Rubicon in terms of on-road manners.

Also - there is something to the a factory-engineered suspension and lift. I have modified a Jeep to the extreme. Its fun. But the factory engineered stuff has warranty itself and does not void warranty that modifying a vehicle can. It does not squeak and is comfortable. Toyota is doing what Ford has done with the Raptor. Why is that so hard to digest?

Yeah - one cany buy a Trail and then get better wheel, tires, lift, suspsnsion blah, blah, blah. Or one can get a TRD Pro and use its capabilities to the fullest. If something goes wrong take it back to get it fixed under warranty. And I bet the resale would be easier and higher than a modified **anything**.

I am glad Toyota offered the TRD Pro package. It fits the bill for me, and I suspect many.

i wasn't aware that Toyota owned Land Rover

what everyone wanted was something to compete with the Raptor, which was entirely possible for them to do. do you know what separated the raptor from a regular F150? stamped steel wide fenders and a mid travel suspension with fox shocks

the TRD Pro is just stickers and badges - there is literally nothing special about it other than the way it looks. the bilsteins are great for someone that is never going to replace them with anything better - and trust me, there is way better stuff available for a lot less money.

trust me, that isn't the case at all. If i didn't want to be one upped, i wouldn't have bought a 2010 with 40,000 miles on it that had been well used. jealousy isn't why we hate on TRD Pro owners, they bring it on themselves.
