Antenna Suggestions

Today on the highway here in AZ we were having high winds. Couple that with going 75-80 mph and well, the antenna snapped off. I glanced into my review mirror for a split second when I heard it snap off the window so I don't think anything hit it (AZ highways are littered with trash/tires. Even saw a full truck bed tool box once).

Anyway this now gives me an opportunity to move forward with a new head unit, CB radio, Firestik antenna, and CB/FM/AM splitter. I think I'll go with the Unidentifiable 520XL so I can use the ash tray mount area.
Anyone with this set up of using the CB antenna as a dual purpose have advice or suggestions? I would also like to use the stock antenna hole to mount the Firestik, does anyone have ideas on that?

Im at this crossroad too.

I just finished doing this a couple of months ago. I used a CBI ditch light bracket to mount a 2' firestick at close to the stock location. It provides great reception for both the radio and CB. My signature link is to my build thread and has info on it.

My power antenna was starting to stick so I put it down, disconnected it, then put a new head unit in with windshield mounted amplified antenna and love it. Better reception, low profile, and I don't have to worry about the power antenna ever.

Here is my adapter box installed.

Finished product - 2' Firestick that has great reception both for AM/FM and CB

What did you use to fill the whole where the old antenna is?

So far I have not. Any water that goes in there just drips out the fender well. I am still keeping an eye out for a clean solution. At some point I would like to have the hole filled in and painted over at a body shop.
