antennas on 5th gen

Can someone tell me why the new 4Runners have an antenna? I have an 04 with no antenna. Most new cars don't have antennas anymore since they are installed in the front or rear Windows. It's a small thing but its a major turnoff for me.

I know that. Like my post says they could have put the antenna in the windows like they do wih every other car nowadays.

haha. ANTMAN with the burn!

But, in all seriousness. The giant antenna is stupid looking, but, my STUBBY is damn sexy.

Honestly, that was the first thing I said to the salesman, before the test drive. Why the hell do they have an antennae. It's all I could see when I was driving it.

But I got over it quick. I mean, it's just an antennae. Look at the rest of the truck. Awesome.

Plus, as other's have said, my stubby antennae make me tingly in certain places when I see it. lol

This thread is comic relief........haha. I concur that the antenna looks stupid but I haven't changed mine yet because it's the dummy warning in low hanging public garages in the event I didn't pay attention to the clearance sign at the entrance. :bravo:

I'm resurrecting this thread. Suggestions from those who have replaced the long antenna with a shorter one. Which one and how's the reception?

I've done quite a bit of looking because I wanted to do the same thing. What I've found is there are some options available but none of them can match OEM quality of the whip antenna performance wise. the stubby is a popular choice but has bad reception. this of course depends on where you live but generally most people have had issues. I've decided to live with my long antenna

Ideas for a shorter antenna?

I've looked up a bunch of those mods but to me it wasn't worth poor reception just for a shorter antenna

Hmmm. I might have to take a look and see if I can modify it at the base. I'd like to shorten it by 2".

Dang. My antenna has gone missing, and I was hoping to replace it with something more modern. But doesn't sound like its worth it...
