Antifreeze vs Your Engine Gaskets......

Has anyone considered the link between the semi new technology (since about 2005) in antifreeze ingredients and head gasket failures ? Specifically , one of the "new" types is very different from the old Ethylene glycol. This "new" type is called DEX-COOL which uses what is known as organic acid technology that uses 2 corrosion inhibitors : sebacate and 2-EHA (2-ethylhexanoic acid) , the latter of the two is a known plasticizer that can cause engine gaskets to leak.
Several class action law Suits have been brought forth in several states and in Canada. Just one more thing to screw the consumer over I guess. Boy, writing this about drove my spell checker nuts ! Note, This is not found in the genuine Toyota brands of antifreeze, i guess that's the best reason I've heard for using the toyota brand,

Interesting. Can you site any studies or research that supports these "known" facts? Like who are they "known by" As far as suits anybody can sue anybody for any reason. I'd be interested in the hard science behind your theory.

yes, the harmful effects of the corrosion inhibitors was proven in the course of the litigation. the first case to reach a settlement was against GM, was reached in December of 2007 and in March 2008 GM agreed to compensate complainants in the remaining 49 states, (the first settlement was in Missouri )
you can view the details of the Suit brought forth by Canada online by looking up Canadian Nationwide Class Action settlement Agreement and there was a DEX-COOL litigation Website but i don't know if it is still active.
So, yes it has been proven but let me emphasize that there are many different formulas of Antifreeze being marketed and they all have different formulas. DEX-COOL is the only one that I'm aware of that can be harmful to your engine gaskets

This works in lieu of the dealer coolant. I started using it when it became available and because...

The last time I went to a Toyota dealership to buy coolant, I was told that I would damage the engine if I did the work. Parts guy said coolant change needed to be done by a certified dealer tech. I turned around and walked out.

This stuff works just fine - no leaks - no blown head gaskets, etc.

DexCool seems to start harming gaskets and other cooling system components when you leave it in there for a long time. If you change it regularly, like every 40k or so, then it doesn't seem to start damaging anything. Either way, I'm not a fan of the stuff.

The Toyota coolant, so far, doesn't seem to change like dexcool does.

Dex Cool - I've seen it gel up in a radiator. Took some work to get it out.
